Hyderabad, August 9
Activists of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen who went on the rampage at a book release function here today attacked Bangladeshi novelist Taslima Nasreen.
Hurling abuses at the author, a group of MIM workers, led by three party legislators, barged into the Press Club premises where Nasreen was participating in a function to mark the release of the Telugu translation of her latest novel “Shodh’’.
As the assailants stormed the conference hall after damaging furniture and glass panes, a shell-shocked Nasreen looked on helplessly. The slogan-shouting MIM workers hurled missiles at Nasreen who, however, escaped unhurt.
A Telugu writer N Innaiah, who organised the function under the banner “Centre for Inquiry’’, received bleeding injuries on his face while another press photographer was also injured in the melee.
