Sanatan Vidya Mandir lads win by 5 wickets

Ludhiana, August 13
Fine innings from Geetansh Khera (65) and Sanchit Gosain (54 n.o) went in vain as Kundan Vidya Mandir School (KVM) lost to Sanatan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School by five wickets in the PAU zone schools cricket tournament (u-19) being played at the Government Model Senior Secondary School, here today.

Batting first, KVM team scored 147 runs for the loss of one wicket in 20 overs. Besides Geetansh (65) and Sanchit (54 n.o), Shivam contributed 13 runs. Suraj Parkash of Sanatan Vidya Mandir School took one wicket for 19 runs in three overs.

KVM school failed to defend the total as Sanatan Vidya Mandir School batsmen achieved the target after losing five wickets in 18.5 overs. Their innings revolved around Yogesh Manral and Suraj Parkash who made 51 and 30 runs, respectively. Gaurav scored 25 while Deepak Bansal made 12.

For KVM, Gagan, Lalit and Geetansh sent down four overs each and took one wicket each conceding 20, 29 and 25 runs, respectively.

Zee Sports to telecast Federation Cup

Ludhiana, August 13
Zee Sports will telecast all matches of the ONGC Nehru Football Cup and Federation Cup live. Nehru Cup is slated to be played from August 17 to 29 in New Delhi. Besides India, teams from Syria, Krygyzstan, Bangladesh and Cambodia will be seen in action during this event to be played on round-robin basis.

Addressing a press conference here today, Gary Lovejoy, chief operating officer, Zee Sports said ONGC Nehru Cup carries a prize money of $100,000. The champions will carry home $40,000. The runners up will be richer by $20,000 while the team finishing third will get $10,000.The channel will also telecast the 29th Federation Cup from Ludhiana live. The event will be held from September 4 to 15 at Guru Nanak Stadium, he added.

The telecast of these tournaments will include preview and review shows, half time match analysis and various studio programming. The coverage will involve more cameras, more replays, new commentators and a new graphic look.

Tushar, Shamsher excel in school cricket finals

Fine batting by Tushar (31 n.o) and Shamsher (22 n.o) helped Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar beat Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar, by nine wickets in the final of the PAU Zone School Cricket Tournament (u-14) played at Sacred Heart School, BRS Nagar, here today.

Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar, scored 78 runs for the loss of three wickets in the allotted 15 overs.

Mankaran made 32 runs while Mayank made 21. Amarbir remained unbeaten on 13.

For Sacred Heart School, BRS Nagar, Piyush and Ishan scalped one wicket each after conceding nine runs each.

Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, surpassed the total in the 10th over after losing just one wicket.

Tushar and Shamsher remained unconquered on 31 and 22 runs, respectively while Konark contributed 17 runs.

For the losers, Mankaran ( 1 for 14) was the lone wicket taker.

Mandi Ahmedgarh, August 13
The under-16 cricket teams of Anand Isher Senior Secondary School, Chhapar village, and Government Senior Secondary School, Dehlon, have been declared winner and runners-up, respectively, in the Kilaraipur zone.

According to Sukhdev Singh, coach of the u-16 team of Anand Isher school, his school team won the final match by defeating the Dehlon team by 57 runs. The winner team scored 110 runs in 11 overs whereas the Dehlon team could score only 53 runs.

Bhawan Preet Mand (46), Preekshat Sofat (20), Gurmit Singh (18) and Dapinder (12) were the major contributors with the bat while Kulwinder, Bector, Gurmit and Lucky bowled brilliantly. The winning team was felicitated by the school head.

Ludhiana, August 13
Defending champion, Rama Bhattacharji thrashed Ritu 25-0 to win the title in the women's section of the Life Insurance Corportion of India Divisional Level Carrom Tournament organised at the LIC of India divisional office, Dugri, here today. In the match to decide third position, Kiran Arora outnumbered Nisha 25-14.

In the men's section, Ashwani Gupta registered an easy win (28-9) over Balbir Singh to the win the title for the third consecutive year. Prem Chand outplayed Sanjiv Sood 25-12 to finish third.

On the basis of their performance in this meet, Ashwani Gupta and Rama Bhattacharji have been selected to represent Ludhiana division in the LIC of India Zonal Level Carrom Championship to be held in the first week of September at Chandigarh where all 15 divisions from North Zone will vie for top honours.
