Calcium levels of 200 women checked at BMD camp Ludhiana, August 15 Dr Iqbal Ahuja and Dr Mini Ahuja, the attending doctors, said a majority of pregnant women had calcium deficiencies. "Not only women but young girls falling between the age groups of 18-22 had calcium deficiency. Major reasons for the deficiency were diet poor in calcium, junk food, sedentary life style, prolong medication and menopause. People must take care of their calcium intake, otherwise they face a lot of problems in later stage", said Dr Mini Ahuja. |
I-Day Ludhiana, August 15 The association also honoured players on this occasion who have represented the nation in international meets. Jagdeep Singh, who captained the Indian basketball squad in the Asian Basketball Championship held in Japan early this month, Dilawar Singh, a member of this team, Kiranjit Kaur, who played for India in the Asian Basketball Championship for Women held in Korea, and Hatminder Kaur, who represented India in the Junior Asian Basketball Meet held in Thailand in December last, were felicitated for bringing fame to the region. Harish Rai Dhanda, chief parliamentary secretary, Punjab, honoured these international cagers. He also felicitated international athletes Gurpreet Singh and Hardeep Kaur. Dhanda gave away prizes to the players. Teja Singh Dhaliwal, secretary of the DBAL, Vijay Chopra, vice-president of the association, besides other office-bearers, coaches and players were among those present on the occasion. |

Cricket Ludhiana, August 15 At draw of stumps, in reply to Ludhiana's first innings total of 166 runs made in 56 overs, Amritsar were well placed with 126 runs for the loss of three wickets after 37 overs. Ludhiana won the toss and chose to bat first. Fine work done by Pankaj and Sanjay who batted well to give Ludhiana a solid start was negated by middle order batsmen who threw away their wickets which put their team in a precarious position. Pankaj made 64 runs while Sanjay scored 21 and Chinton Sehgal contributed 18 runs. For Amritsar, Gaurav Bhandari captured three wickets for 40 runs while Charanjit claimed two for 40. In reply, Amritsar in their first innings scored 126 for 3. Rahul Matto scored 19 and Munish Bhatia contributed 30 runs. Vipan Chauhan and Mayank Sharma were at the crease with 43 and 20 runs against their names. For Ludhiana, Arun Sharma scalped two wickets for 32 runs while Gurtej Gill grabbed one wicket for 13 runs. |
