PGI doctor accused of death due to negligence
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, August 16
A resident of Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, Kartar Singh, alleged that his son died after the hospital authorities discharged him without treating him properly. He also said his son was transfused with mismatched platelets.

In a complaint lodged with the PGI director, Singh said his son Rohan died due to the negligence of the doctor at Advanced Paediatric Centre, this morning.

In his complaint to the director, vigilance office and head of the Department of Paediatric Medicine, Dr R K Marwaha, Singh said his son was admitted to PGI in May 2007 as he was suffering from the first stage of cancer.

He had completed all four courses of chemotherapy successfully and was discharged on August 3. He was readmitted on August 7 as he developed black spots on his entire body, he added.

Kartar Singh alleged that the next day, Dr Amita Trehan ordered for Rohan’s discharge without any proper medication even as black spots were still there on the body and mild bleeding still persisted.

Then, he said, his son’s condition worsened and he was readmitted to PGI on August 9, but he never recovered after that.

The PGI spokesperson said they had received the complaint and the matter would be looked into.
