The second largest fall in the share market caused panic among investors here today. As the Sensex recorded a decline of more than 640 points and closed below 14,360, many small investors, particularly short-term, resorted to panic selling. Investors suffered losses to the tune of crores of rupees today.

The Jodhan police has booked 10 persons under sections 342, 365, 452, 148 and 149 of the IPC for allegedly torturing a senior citizen of Nangal Kalan village after abducting him from his house and keeping him in a doghouse on Independence Day yesterday.

As many as 100 members of the District Freedom Fighters Organisation Ludhiana here hope to get honour and respect by the state government. In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at a state-level Independence Day function here yesterday, the members expressed hope that freedom fighters would be taken into confidence by the government in the functioning of various committees and boards.
