Job fair concludes

Ludhiana, February 19
Two-days Job Mart organised by ICFAI at GGNIMT concluded here today. There were in total 25 companies, which took part in the fair. The total number of candidates who walked in were more than 2500. More than 500 candidates were short-listed for jobs. Candidates walked in from far-flung areas like Kangra, Yamunanagar and Abohar. The overall feedback of both candidates and companies was appreciable.

ICFAI branch manager Sukhpreet Singh, event officer Kirandeep Singh along with his team mates have thanked the college authorities for their support. Sukhpreet Singh also assured both the employers and job seekers that they would be regularly conducting such fairs to fill the job pool and provide right opportunities to right candidates.

Drishti holds interactive workshop

Ludhiana, August 19
Kusum Trikha, head teacher of Lea Nursery School, Slough, London, and inspector of school for standards in education, conducted a workshop with the staff of Drishti School here yesterday. The theme of the workshop was “Enhancing Learning and Assessment skills”.

Kusum said, "It has been a delightful experience for me to conduct the workshop as I have found the teachers of the school to be very quick on the uptake. We talked of self-evaluation at the student, teacher and school levels. The teachers of Drishti have been using strategies that we use. I wanted to share my experiences acquired recently as school improvement partner. My job is to evaluate the performances of schools and challenge and support head teachers.”

The workshop stressed upon making the child a happy and inquisitive learner. The brainstorming sessions brought out the essential points of planning for personalised learning and bringing the best out of each child.

Amandeep is Miss Fresher
DMCH also welcomes freshers

Students of Guru Nanak Girls’ College hostel celebrated welcome cum Freshers party here today. Gurbir Singh, president, Guru Nanak Education Trust and Dr Charanjit Mahal, college principal presided over the function. She welcomed the students and encouraged them to participate in extra-curricular activities along with their regular studies and to work hard for bringing laurels to the college.

The senior students of hostel enthralled the newcomers and other guests with their scintillating performances. In the Miss Fresher contest, more than 20 participants took part. Dr Surinder, Rupinder and Poonam were the three judges. 10 out of the total contestants were selected for the second round in which questions were asked to evaluate them at intellectual levels. The round was performed well by all contestants.

Amandeep was crowned Miss Fresher, Priyanka and Sukhbir were declared first and second runners-up respectively. Inderjit was selected as Miss Elegant while Puneet Kamal was given he title of Miss beautiful smile. The Principal crowned the winners.

Meanwhile, Freshers of MBBS were accorded a warm welcome at a function organised at Dumra Auditorium in Dayanand Medical College and Hospital here last evening.

In his welcome address, principal of DMCH Dr Daljit Singh congratulated the parents for selection of this prestigious medical institution for their wards. He emphasised that getting admission to the course was only a step towards becoming a qualified doctor. The true test of a doctor’s concern for the patient lied in the fact that he should make himself available to the patients, as and when needed. He encouraged the freshers to cultivate virtues like honesty, truthfulness, discipline and selflessness to preserve the nobility.

After the welcome address, the members of DMCH managing society, as also the faculty, medical administrators and the administrative staff, were formally introduced to the students for better understanding.

Dr S.C. Chopra made an impressive slide presentation, which showcased the curriculum details of MBBS course being run by the institute. The presentation also focused on valuable information about the interests, hobbies and talents.

Among those present on the occasion were secretary of the managing society treasurer Satish Sanwalka, managing society members Balraj Kumar, vice-principal Dr Jagdeep Whig and medical superintendents.

Tips to students on leadership traits

In order to train the students for public speaking and develop qualities of leadership in them, a seminar on leadership was organised at Everest Public Senior Secondary School, Moti Nagar, Ludhiana, here yesterday in the school premises.

Dr Rakesh Kapoor, DHMS, Dr Usha Kapoor, DHMS and Rajinder Sharma, president, Association of the Punjab School Education Board Affiliated Schools, Punjab (Regd), presided over the function.

Sharma advised the students to prepare themselves to lead others and to be brave in adverse situations.

Dr Usha Kapoor stressed that modern age is an age of strife. Self-confidence, firm determination, single-minded devotion and hard work help a person climb the ladder to success.

“Success is one per cent chance and 99 per cent perspiration. Unflinching courage, patience and hard labour are the keys to success,” said Dr Rakesh.
