VB nabs JE, radiographer
Ludhiana, August 20
The Vigilance Bureau officials today claimed to have nabbed Premjit Singh, a senior radiographer posted with the civil hospital, and Gurjit Singh, a junior engineer with the PSEB, while taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,000 bribe, respectively.

Clerk told to pay Rs 20,000 to join post

Even after getting an official letter of appointment as Group C clerk with district administration on March 18, 2005, Kuldeep Singh, son of a riot victim is a dejected man today.Thanks to the petty clerical objections raised by the concerned department, 27 years old Kuldeep Singh is literally trapped in proverbial official red tape. One person in the department asks him to pay Rs 20,000 for joining the post whereas the other clerk tells him that another person had already been recruited at his place. Going through a tough period, Kuldeep Singh feels harassed and “tortured” by the concerned department for not making him clear about the real picture.

7 hurt in brawl

Seven persons were hurt and a car was damaged in a street brawl near Samrala Chowk late last evening. The groups clashed over a minor argument of giving pass to a vehicle.

A small minority of people is left-handed and they have a disadvantage because generally the human race is use to using right hand for almost all activities. Very rarely the people are ambidextrous i.e. able to use both hands equally proficiently. A competition titled ‘left-handed day’ was organised in Ryan International Public School here today.
Ultrasound centre sealed

An ultrasound scan centre in Raikot has been sealed and its registration suspended for four weeks by the sub-divisional appropriate authority Dr G.L. Gill for discrepancies in registration record and violations of the provisions of the PNDT Act.

Nullah encroached upon by business houses

A 15-feet wide nullah along the Malhar Road has literally vanished in just about a decade. The space has been encroached upon by the business establishments that have come up along the road over these years.
