Blood donation
: Seventyfive persons, including chief guest SDM Dr NS Brar and presiding officer DSP Parampal Singh, donated blood during a function held at the Homeopathic Medical College Hospital here.The function was to celebrate the birth anniversary of martyr Rajguru on Friday. Dr Ram Kumar Goyal,a former MLA, inaugurated an analyser in the lab worth Rs 2 lakh. 

2 murdered: A farmer Baldev Singh (60) and his young son were murdered by their close relations at Kundal village on Thursday. According to information, Baldev Singh was having some dispute over sharing canal water with his relatives.The latter allegedly attacked Baldev and his son with spades. Both died on the spot.

Awarded
: Dr Narpinder Singh, a senior professor of Food Science and Technology of GND University, has been awarded Ramanna Fellowship by the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Dr Singh has been sanctioned Rs 34.80 lakh as research grant for the award, for participating in international conferences and scientific meetings abroad.

Electrocuted
: Gurmukh Singh (15), son of a farmer,was electrocuted at Jodhpur village on Thursday night when he went to the fields to run a motor for irrigation. He died on the spot. 

FEROZEPUR
Function
: To commemorate the birth centenary year of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, the district administration organised a function to pay homage to the gallant martyrs who had smilingly embraced gallows.

AWWA week: An AWWA carnival was organised here in which Reena Pal from Arty Brigade was chosen as the Golden Arrow AWWA queen whereas Deepa Joshi (Infantry Brigade) and Parvinder Kaur(Arty Brigade) were declared first and second runner’s up. 

Special counters: Ramesh Sethi, regional manager of the State Bank of India, said on Friday that the bank had opened special counters for the convenience of pensioners. Branch manager N K Gosian said 155 pensioners have been with provided personal loans.

March:
The district TB control society carried out a candlelight march late Thursday night to create awareness among people about the revised national TB control programme launched in this district. This was stated by Nishan Singh, district TB officer, here on Friday. 

Drugs seized: The district civil hospital authorities seized intoxicating medicines worth Rs 1.5 lakh from the two unauthorised godowns of a local medical hall on Friday. The team comprising doctors, drug inspector Dinesh Kumar and DSP Balwinder Singh, conducted a raid on the godowns of Jai Sharda Medical Store located on the Gaushala road of the town.

PO arrested
: Balwinder Pal, a proclaimed offender (PO), was arrested by the police on Friday near Sloh village. Balwinder has been residing in Srinagar since 1981. He had come to the town a few days ago. 

Aid distributed: Deputy commissioner Gurpal Singh Bhatti distributed cheques worth Rs 35,000 among the three beneficiaries of the ‘Shagun’ scheme for the daughters of ex-servicemen here on Friday.

Five thefts rock Phagwara
: A gang of thieves struck at five places in Hadiabad, a suburb of Phagwara last night. Valuables worth Rs 2 lakh were stolen. The thieves decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 1,53,500 from Raj Grocery Store at Hadiabad Chowk, Rs 1,500 from a furniture house and goods and cash worth Rs 11,500 from a paint shop. In other thefts a water pump and a floor grinding machine were stolen from the house of Raj Kumar and some parts of a Maruti vehicle were stolen by miscreants after breaking the windowpanes of the vehicle.

Suicide
: Jasbir Kaur (24), wife of Jasbir Singh, resident of Bhutal Kalan village (near Moonak), allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance on Thursday. The postmortem examination of the body was conducted at the Civil Hospital, Sunam, on Friday.A case has been registered under Section 306, IPC, against the mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law of the deceased on the complaint of her father.

Tarn Taran
Body found:The Khem karan police has found the decomposed body of an old woman in a canal near the village. The body has been identified as that of Veer Kaur (70) of Butter Kalan village in Gurdaspur district.The police has registered a case. The body was handed over to kin of the deceased after a post-mortem examination.

KUMARHATTI
Strike
: Employees’ strike in Bhujia Dental College, Bhud, near Baddi, entered its second day on Friday. The employees sat on dharna in front of the college main gate and shouted slogans against the highhandedness of the college management for refusing their demand of pay hike. The strike was started on Thursday under the banner of AIUTC. Meanwhile, the college management efforts to end the strike have fallen flat as employees refused to accept a 20 per cent hike in salary.

Association
: The State Rangers Welfare Association has thanked Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and the principal chief conservator of forests for revoking the suspension of three range officers for not joining duty after their transfer. General secretary of the association S.S. Kashyap said by revoking the suspension the government had saved the officers from agony they were undergoing. 

SHIMLA
Sikh council
: The Himachal Pradesh Sikhs’ Welfare Council has urged Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to provide a suitable land or building for establishing a Sikh museum and community centre at Shimla. A deputation led by president S. Rawail Singh met the CM in this regard. They urged him to ensure that teachers were appointed at the earliest for teaching Punjabi language in 100 schools. They requested him to give due representation to the community in various institutions and boards.
