2 murdered: A farmer Baldev Singh (60) and his young son were murdered by their close relations at Kundal village on Thursday. According to information, Baldev Singh was having some dispute over sharing canal water with his relatives.The latter allegedly attacked Baldev and his son with spades. Both died on the spot.

Awarded: Dr Narpinder Singh, a senior professor of Food Science and Technology of GND University, has been awarded Ramanna Fellowship by the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Dr Singh has been sanctioned Rs 34.80 lakh as research grant for the award, for participating in international conferences and scientific meetings abroad.

Electrocuted: Gurmukh Singh (15), son of a farmer,was electrocuted at Jodhpur village on Thursday night when he went to the fields to run a motor for irrigation. He died on the spot.

PO arrested: Balwinder Pal, a proclaimed offender (PO), was arrested by the police on Friday near Sloh village. Balwinder has been residing in Srinagar since 1981. He had come to the town a few days ago.

Five thefts rock Phagwara: A gang of thieves struck at five places in Hadiabad, a suburb of Phagwara last night. Valuables worth Rs 2 lakh were stolen. The thieves decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 1,53,500 from Raj Grocery Store at Hadiabad Chowk, Rs 1,500 from a furniture house and goods and cash worth Rs 11,500 from a paint shop. In other thefts a water pump and a floor grinding machine were stolen from the house of Raj Kumar and some parts of a Maruti vehicle were stolen by miscreants after breaking the windowpanes of the vehicle.

Suicide: Jasbir Kaur (24), wife of Jasbir Singh, resident of Bhutal Kalan village (near Moonak), allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance on Thursday. The postmortem examination of the body was conducted at the Civil Hospital, Sunam, on Friday.A case has been registered under Section 306, IPC, against the mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law of the deceased on the complaint of her father.

Body found:The Khem karan police has found the decomposed body of an old woman in a canal near the village. The body has been identified as that of Veer Kaur (70) of Butter Kalan village in Gurdaspur district.The police has registered a case. The body was handed over to kin of the deceased after a post-mortem examination.
