Dental conference from September 1
Chandigarh, August 25 The conference is being held for the first time in North India. Tikshan Sood, minister of medical education and research, will inaugurate the conference, said the chief organiser, Dr Bhagwant Singh, vice-president, APDF, in a press note. The convener of the conference, Dr S.P.S. Sodhi, vice-principal of the Genesis Institute of Dental Sciences, Ferozepur, said the theme of the conference is ‘Ensuring success in endodontics implant dentistry and crown and bridge in dentistry.’ About 500 delegates from Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, HP, Jammu and Kashmir and UP are expected to attend. |

GMSSS-35 lads emerge champs
Chandigarh, August 25 Meanwhile, GMSSS-37 cornered glory by clinching the top position in the inter-school hockey tournament (u-14 and u-17)held at the Sector 42 sports complex. Other results Chess: U-17: 1 GMSSS-35, 2 GMSSS-32, 3 St Kabir 26; u-19: 1 GMSSS-37, 2 GMSSS-20, 3 GMSSS-33. Hockey: U-14: 1 GMSSS-37, 2 GMSSS-35, 3 St Stephen-45; u-17: 1 GMSSS-37, 2 DAV-8. Football: GMSSS-10 team emerged winner in the u-19 football tournament held at GMSSS-22 grounds, here, today. DAV-15 got the second place while Sanjay Public School-44 stood third. Judo: Judokas of GMSSS-21 stole the show by clinching the first place in the final judo event for u-19 held at Sports Hall, Sector 42, here, today. DAV-8 and Dev Samaj-21 bagged the second and third prizes, respectively. Carrom: DAVPS-8 clinched the title in the u-14 inter-school carrom meet held at St Stephen’s School-45, here. St Kabir-26 and Mount Carmel-47 won the second and third positions, respectively. Kho-Kho: Government Model High School-41 lads won the u-19 kho-kho meet held at SGGS-35, here. GNKS-30 and GMSSS-22 got the second and third places, respectively. The u-14 title went to Ajit Karam Singh-41 team while GMHS-40 and GMHS-46 got the second and third places, respectively. |

Cricket trials on Aug 27
Chandigarh, August 25 The selected team will participate in the forthcoming Haryana Inter-district Cricket Tournament. According to Surinder Singh Baijee, general secretary, Chandigarh Cricket Association (affiliated to the Haryana Cricket Association), the players, born on or after September 1, 1990, will be eligible to participate in the trials. |

Malwa school, Ranjit academy set up summit clash

Chandigarh, August 25 Both teams got entry in the final on the basis of points earned during the semifinal league matches. Earlier, in the semifinal league match between Baba Uttam Singh Hockey Academy (BUSH), Khadoor Sahib, and GRM School, New Delhi, the former blanked the later by 7-0. Gurdeep Singh was declared the man of the match. In the second league match, Malwa Khalsa School lost to Maharaja Ranjit Singh Academy, Amritsar, by 2-3. The Ludhiana team opened their account in the third minute by converting a penalty corner through Gagandeep. For Amritsar, Gurpreet netted the ball in the 21st minute. Both teams were levelled 1-1 till the half time. Gurpreet extended the lead to 2-1 in the 37th minute while Ramandeep accumulated one more goal in the 46th minute. The Ludhiana team, which missed 9 out of 11 penalty corners, could only reduce the margin in the 51st minute through Nirmaljeet. Though the team lost by 2-3, yet it managed to get entry in the final on the point basis. |

Nipun scripts victory for
Sector 16 stadium
Chandigarh, August 25 Batting first, the Sector 16 team scored 92 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Besides the opener Nipun, Pryanshu made 20 runs. Chasing the target, Shri Shri Academy was packed up for 49 runs in 17 overs. Nipun, Eshaan, Daman and Pryanshu snapped two wickets each. Only Gurdeep Singh (28) could reach the double figure.
