Hockey: Rail coach factory romp home

Ludhiana, August 26
On the second day of the Punjab Schools Wings Hockey Tournament being played at Mata Sahib Kaur Stadium, Jarkahr, near here, today in the boy’s section, Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala sports wing faced a stiff challenge from the Tarkhanbadh wing, Moga, before romping home 1-0.

In the second match of the day, the Ludhiana wing (boys) fought a pitched battle to draw 1-1 with the Talwandi Bhai wing while in another match, the Jarkhar wing players drubbed the Talwandi Bhai wing 4-1 to advance into the next round. The Tarkhanbadh wing, Moga, outplayed the Ludhiana wing 4-1 and the Ropar wing beat the Talwandi Bhai wing 3-1 to assure themselves a place in the next round.

In the girl’s section, the Tarkhanbadh wing, Moga, routed the Nehru Garden wing, Jalandhar, 3-0. However, in their second match played later in the day, the Nehru Garden wing, Jalandhar, managed to pip the Ladhowali Road wing, Jalandhar, 3-0.

Manjeet Singh, a senior Akali leader, who was the chief guest, blessed the youngsters. He assured all sorts of help to further promote the game of hockey in the region. Rupinder Singh Ravi, assistant education officer, Ludhiana, coach Lachhman Singh, Gurbinder Singh, Lakhbir Dullo, Manjeet Singh Theerke, Joginder Singh Patwari, Nirbhay Singh Grewal, Jatinder Singh and Paramjeet Singh Neetu were among other prominent personalities of the area who were present on the occasion.
