Spirit of Rakhi rules at schools Ludhiana, August 27 Lord’s Divine Public School, Grewal Colony, Noorwala Road, Ludhiana, held a function to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. Rajnish Jain, trustee of the school, was the chief guest. The girl students tied rakhis on the wrists of the boy students and offered sweets. The boy students in turn gave small gifts to them. A rakhi making contest was held in which 85 students took part. Young hands prepared rakhis of their liking, colour and choice. The contest was divided into three groups. Group A consisted of pre-primary students. Group B consisted of primary students and group C consisted of Middle students. Maple Bear (Canadian Playway and Nursery School, Udham Singh Nagar) celebrated this auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan with great enthusiasm and gaiety. Kids came in traditional dresses and tied rakhis to their classmates. Kids made beautiful rakhis from flowers, beads etc. Greeting cards and decorative thalis for Puja with their own little hands were very aesthetically prepared. Veena Aggarwal, principal of the school, explained to the kids about the importance of this festival. |

Teaching techniques demonstrated Doraha, August 27 D.R Vij, former dean, Punjabi University, Patiala, and national awardee in the field of education, was the resource person for the workshop. Vij, with an experience of nearly 60 years of teaching, demonstrated different methods involved in the teaching-learning process. He said a teacher needed to follow some core teaching techniques if he or she wanted to win the hearts of students and become successful. He stressed that a student should be taught in the manner in which he wanted to learn and not in the way the teacher wanted to teach. Teachers from various schools and colleges actively participated in the workshop. The participating institutes were: DAV School, Ludhiana, Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Saraswati Model Senior Secondary School, Anand Isher Public School, Sant Kirpal Singh Public School, Neelon, Khalsa Girls Senior Secondary School, Doraha, Govt Senior Secondary School (Dehlon, Sahnewal, Doraha), DIMT, Doraha, GNN College, Doraha, and the Mata Ganga Khalsa College for Girls, Kottan. An interaction between the delegates and Vij was held wherein teachers highlighted their techniques of teaching. They shared their classroom experiences. Manjit Kaur, district education officer, Ludhiana, was the chief guest for the valedictory function. Principal J. Kiran Gera welcomed the chief guest and called for greater rapport between schools and education colleges. Director Amrit K. Gurm delivered the valedictory address. DEO Manjit Kaur said in this age of information technology, teachers should update their knowledge and skills regularly so that they remained one step ahead of their students. S. Sukhpal Singh, chairman of the DCE, thanked the participants. |

'42,000 took moral education exam' Ludhiana, August 27 Director, Youth Services and in-charge of Moral Education Exam Satnam Singh Saihopuri said for the success and smooth functioning of the exam, the state was divided into 12 zones led by 12 zonal coordinators, 1,050 centre superintendents and 3,000 supervisors. Besides, schools-in-charge were on duty to help the study circle volunteers. Directorate of Youth Services and Supreme Council, headed by chief organiser principal Ram Singh, thanked zonal presidents, secretaries and members of zonal working committee along with all the school principals and teachers for cooperating and making the exam a success. All the students who took part in the exam were also praised for their efforts. |

From Colleges Ludhiana, August 27 Charanjit Mahal welcomed the new students and encouraged them to study hard. A colourful talent hunt show was organised at Kamla Lohtia S.D. College today. This was stated by college spokesperson Deepak Dhingra. The students put up a show that included songs, dance items, bhangra, skit, drama and debates. They also expressed their views on subjects such as dowry system, child labour, etc. |

They include S.K. Singla, K.N. Sharma and M.S. Mahal for the post of president; Harmeet Singh, B.S. Sohal and K.S. Sandhu for the post of vice-president; U.S. Walia, S.K. Sangha and Mukesh Siag for the post of secretary; S.K. Gupta, J.S. Sarabha and J.S. Kanag for the post of joint secretary; and M.L. Sharma, S.S. Sooch and R.C. Sharma for the post of treasurer. Ludhiana gets its first pharmacy institute Ludhiana, August 27 This is the first pharmacy institute in Ludhiana. The institute is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and Punjab government. Chairman, Punjab Management Education Trust, Wg Cdr H.S.
