Officers shifted
: The Punjab government today transferred Balwinder Singh as additional chief administrator, PUDA, SAS Nagar, vice Manjit Singh Narang, who has been sent to Patiala in the same capacity.

MOGA
Protest: Members of the Kirti Kisan Union staged a protest in front of the office of executive engineer, Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB), at G T Road on Tuesday. The union demanded assured power supply for at least eight hours a day. The protest was held under the chairmanship of state president of the union Nirbhay Singh. He said the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), had promised 10 hours power supply in its manifesto.

Suicide: A young married woman on Tuesday committed suicide in nearby Tunga village, 10 km from here, by hanging herself from the pillar of the charpoy. Sarabjit Kaur unable to meet everyday demands of her in-laws to bring money and material, ended her life in the early hours of the day. The police on a complaint of the father of the deceased registered a case against her father-in-law Baldev Singh, mother-in-law Ranjit Kaur and husband Gurpreet Singh under Sections 304-B and 34 of the IPC.

SANGRUR
Buffalo thieves: The Dhuri police has busted a gang of buffalo thieves with the arrest of four persons, Mohammad Usman, Mohammad Munir, Sehzad Mohammad and Mohammad Sulfam, all belonging to Jhinjhana village in Uttar Pradesh. They were arrested for allegedly stealing four buffaloes of Gulam Rasool, alias Gama, resident of Kakkarwal village, near Dhuri, on Sunday night. Sangrur, SSP, Arun Pal Singh said the police had recovered all four buffaloes from the possession of the accused.

Tablets seized: Authorities of the local district jail seized 500 tablets of Alprax from a jail inmate undergoing life imprisonment in a murder case. Jail superintendent D K Sidhu said here yesterday the tablets were recovered from Hari Singh, who had been undergoing life sentence. Necessary action would be taken against the accused after obtaining the drug inspector’s opinion.

NDPS Act: Thana Singh, a resident of Booh village, and his wife Jaswinder Kaur were booked under the NDPS Act by the Valtoha police on Monday night. The district police told newsmen on Tuesday that 1 kg opium and 80 kg poppy husk had been recovered from them when they were stopped at a naka at Ghairala village.

BILASPUR
BPL families: DC Rajinder Singh has said that anybody having any grievance regarding selection of BPL families by respective panchayats, could approach the SDM of the area till September 15. The matter would be decided by the SDM till September 30. He said those dissatisfied with the decision of the SDM could appeal to him till October 15.

KUMARHATTI
Assaulted: An assistant manager of a company was beaten up by some person at Gullerwala near Baddi on Monday night. Neeraj Kumar Mehta, who was employed with JKS International, was pounded upon by a group of six persons at around 8.30 pm outside the unit. A case has been registered.

Cultural troupe: A cultural troupe of the Mandavaya Kala Munch, Mandi, will present Mandi’s folk dance “Ludi” and folk theatre “Budara” abroad as the Indian council for Cultural Relation, New Delhi, has shortlisted these two items following performances by the troupe at Sundernagar on Sunday.

Reconstituted: State PCC chief Viplove Thakur has approved the reconstituted team of office-bearers and executive committee of the Shimla district Congress Committee.
