Ludhiana, August 30 The foundation has decided to open 34 primary schools in various villages in the district in the coming days. The villagers feel that it is a significant move to provide quality education to the weaker sections of society. The “Satya Bharti” schools will come up in villages, including Satiyana, Bagga Khurd, Khanpur Bet, Balliyewal, Pirthipur, Hussainpura, Mithewal, Gausgarh, Lakhowal, Behlolpur etc., in the coming days. These will start from pre-nursery up to the fifth standard under the name “Satya Bharti Primary Schools”. A spokesperson for the Bharti Foundation from Delhi said the aim of the foundation was to provide quality education to the rural children, who had no access to education. Besides, the schools would also provide mid-day meals (biscuits, tea, snacks) to the children free of cost. “The foundation will be providing education free of cost. Those who can afford to pay (if willing) would be asked to pay a nominal fee. The foundation plans to open 1,000 such schools in the country. After Ludhiana, we would be focusing on Amritsar and other districts in the state as well. Though the movement is slow but we have got tremendous response from the villagers”, he said. One such school was already being run in Ghumana village, Ludhiana Block II, where more than 60 students had been enrolled and two teachers were successfully taking the classes. Nachhatar Singh, one of the villagers, said education used to be a distant dream for the children of the villages. The foundation’s move in collaboration with the state government must be appreciated. “Our children are lucky to get free education here in the primary school”, he said. According to sources, the government would provide land to the Bharti Foundation for this purpose. Half an acre land would be provided to the group either free of cost or for Re 1 (lease money). Creating magic, the miniature way
Ludhiana, August 30 Talking to TNS, Bhogal said, “A carpenter by profession, I am keen to capture all the traditional things in bottles and display them so that the children as well as the adults get a taste of the old days. I have a furniture shop near Jalandhar and put up these bottles on my counter. The NRIs who visit the shop are often amazed to see my handiwork and are all praise for it.” His profession helps him figure out the nitty-gritties of making wooden objects. He said, “I have devised clippers, tweezers and other tools needed by twisting bicycle wires. For the ‘niwari bed’, first I sent the frame in the bottle and then used glue to stick them. Then I weaved it together. I remain busy due to my business but take out time to pursue my hobby. My family members encourage me and feel great happiness when they see the finished product. At times, I feel frustrated when I don’t make headway. But then I leave it and try again after a few hours.” He said it has taken him months to make the ‘chatti’, ‘madhani’ and a beautiful ‘charkha’ - complete to their minutest details. “I buy the bottles from the scrap sellers and paint the lids brown. These miniatures are my labour of love and I will make all the objects that were used extensively in every Punjabi household I am trying to get my name entered in the Limca Book of Records. The NRIs encourage me and with their support, I plan to hold exhibitions abroad along with other creators of wonderful things. My job is to keep working hard and hone my skills. The finished products are my reward.” |
