Medical technologists to take mass leave on Sept 10
Chandigarh, September 3 The management of the institute said it had appealed to the association to come forward for discussion of their demands, but the association had refused to accept the call of the administration. The association had earlier also threatened to go on mass casual leave in December 2006, but had withdrawn the stir after discussions with administration. The PGI authorities said the demands of association, including a few issues related to the recommendations of the Fifth Central Pay Commission, declaration of operative staff and patient care allowances, have been taken up with the Government of India. According to authorities the issue was being pursued at appropriate level and their grievances were likely to be redressed in the near future. Further the government has set up the Sixth Central Pay Commission and the institute has also set up a committee under the chairpersonship of Sudha Sharma, chief commissioner (retd), for making consolidated proposal of the institute relating to cadre review of various categories, upgradation of pay scales, cases of fifth Pay Commission anomalies, new allowances, enhancement of existing allowances. The management can do nothing in this direction as the government is not entertaining any proposal relating to cadre review or upgradation of pay scales at present during the tenure of Sixth Central Pay Commission, added the PGI authorities. On the other hand Ashwani Munjal, general secretary of the PGI Medical Technologists Association said the association has already withdrawn its call for mass leave first in February 2006 and later in December on the assurances given by the authorities but nothing was done in this regard. |

Zero field experience maketh PU sports head
Chandigarh, September 4 Nawal Kishore, a professor at varsity’s Geology Department, has been handed over the additional charge of sports. This decision was taken in an executive body meeting held at the university premises today. He took over the charge from the outgoing “additional” director, D.N. Johar, a professor at the Law Department. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof R.S. Sobti said, “When our selection panel could not find any suitable candidate for the post and the present director wanted to get himself relieved from it, how could we afford to keep the post vacant? “Moreover, the job of a director is just to coordinate the various sports wings in the university. The technical staff in the sports department can help him do the job,” he further justified. “We are also approaching institutes like SAI, which could help us find a suitable candidate,” the V-C said. However, the question arises: What was the need of interviewing so many candidates with a sports background for the position of sports director? Moreover, why did the university take so much time in appointing a sports director if the selection criteria was so flexible? It is pertinent to mention here that since 2000, after the retirement of Ajmer Singh, the university did not appoint a regular sports director. Though interviews for the same were conducted many-a-times, nothing substantial came out of them. The outgoing additional director, Sports, Dr D.N. Johr, said, “There was too much burden on me and I also felt that I was not doing justice to my job. It was a stopgap arrangement for a few months. After holding the additional charge for almost a year, I requested the V-C to relieve me from this work. I could not even take out time to concentrate on Law - which is my main subject. So, they relieved me today.” |
