In Parliament, they just didn’t listen to their ‘headmaster’ New Delhi, September 5 Chatterjee’s comment came after he led the House in paying tributes to former President S Radhakrishnan whose birthday is celebrated as Teachers’ Day. “Let us on this day pay our tributes to Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan and to the whole teaching fraternity as without their immense contribution, no country can achieve the goals of progress and prosperity,” he said. Chatterjee said traditionally, teachers have enjoyed the highest regard and respect in society for their selfless and dedicated service to the nation. However, in spite of his pleadings, NDA members trooped into the well of the Lok Sabha chanting slogans “we want JPC” and “bring JPC, save the nation”. Both Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha witnessed frequent disruptions before being adjourned for the day. Somnath Chatterjee pleaded in vain with agitated members to allow question hour, however, the members were unrelenting and the House was adjourned twice in the pre-lunch session. — PTI |
