UAE extradites gangster to India
Tribune News Service

Mumbai, September 6
Acting on a request by the Indian authorities, the government of the United Arab Emirates today extradited Iqbal Attarwala of the Dawood Ibrahim gang who is wanted by the Mumbai police in an extortion case.

Attarwala, who allegedly runs an event management company in Dubai, arrived in Mumbai early this morning when he was arrested by waiting policemen.

According to the police, Attarwala was also into extorting money from Bollywood personalities and forcing them to perform at shows organised by the D-company. Attarwala was said to be a close associate of Dawood’s deputy Chotta Shakeel and was running an event management company by the name of Show Blitz and a construction company called Shergil Builders.

However, his lawyer Kunjuraman said Attarwala was coming to India to surrender on his own, but was picked up by the police.

Attarwala (45) escaped from India in 2004 when a city-based builder filed a case of cheating and extortion against him for allegedly grabbing a 2400 sq metre plot of land in suburban Malad. The plot reportedly belonged to a builder called Ranchodji Patel. The builder had also named a well-known encounter specialist of the Mumbai police for threatening him on behalf of the Chotta Shakeel gang for taking on Attarwala.

However, the police could not find any evidence against the cop and reinstated him into the police force.
