Jind: So, what was MP Atma Singh up to?

Jind, September 7
Congress party MP from Sirsa Atma Singh Gill has been accused of immoral trafficking. Hundreds of workers and supporters of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) today gheraoed the government rest house at Narwana town alleging presence of two women in the room of Gill, who had checked in while on the way to his home town, last night.

While INLD leaders have demanded registration of a case of immoral trafficking, the district administration and the police have denied revelation of any illegal activity.

Gill and the Congress party leaders have denied the allegations and have described the move as an attempt to tarnish their image by politically motivated elements.

Supporters of the former Chief Minister of Haryana, Bhajan Lal, including Krishan Murti Hooda, a former minister, staged a protest demonstration here today and submitted a memorandum to the President of India through the Deputy Commissioner seeking action against the MP and the state government.

It is reported Gill checked in at the rest house last night around 10. 30 p.m and had been allotted room number four. He was on his way to Ratia from Chandigarh. But by about 2.30 am, the place was thronged by a large number of persons, mostly by political activists, including a former M.P of Hisar and former Haryana minister, started raising slogans after gheraoing the building. They alleged that there were two women present inside the room with the MP, who were not his kin and demanded his arrest. The police reached at the spot around 3.30 am. SP J.S. Lamba claimed that there was nothing illegal or wrong found at the rest house and the women who were present there had been relatives of the M.P, who had been accompanying him from Chandigarh. He said no complaint had been lodged by anyone against anybody. The Deputy Commissioner, Yudhvir Singh, when contacted also aired similar views and claimed that there was nothing wrong at the rest house. He said some persons had gathered there alleging that some bad elements had been present at the rest house, but claimed that the police did not find anyone. He also added no complaint had been received against anyone, including the M.P. It is learnt that one of the women, aged about 25, said she had come to seek help of the M.P regarding admission in B.Ed course. However, no entry had been done in the register of the rest house, regarding the stay of the VIP. Jai Prakash, Congress MP from Hisar, when contacted described the incident as a fabricated attempt of the INLD to defame both Gill and the Congress party, in order to get political mileage. But Krishan Murti Hooda, a supporter of Bhajan Lal and Kuldeep Bishnoi charged the police and the administration with shielding the MP and the government and demanded immediate registration of a case.
