Aadils script Lahore win

Chandigarh, September 11
A fine knock of 47 runs by Aadil Sardar ably supported by Aadil with 36 runs enabled the Lahore team to beat St John’s by five wickets today on the second day of the twenty20 cricket tourney for u-19 being played at St John’s grounds, here.

Batting first, the St John’s team scored 143 runs for four wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Sharief and Zubin scored 36 and 35 runs, respectively. Arshad Ali and Salman of the Lahore team claimed two wickets each.

In reply, the Lahore team achieved the winning target in 19 overs, losing five wickets. St John’s Jason claimed two wickets while Sahib and Mohan claimed one wicket each.

In another match played at DAV, Sector 8, DAV team beat Lahore XI team by 34 runs.

Batting first, DAV piled up 139 runs at the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs while the Lahore team was bundled out at 105 runs in 17.4 overs.

YPSA register 9-run win

Chandigarh, September 11
A brilliant opening 66-run stand between Arsh Goel (19) and Subeer (33) helped Yadavindra Public School Academy (YPSA), Mohali, to beat Hans Raj Cricket Academy (HRCA), Panchkula, by nine runs in a Group-C league match of the WWICS U-14 Cricket Tournament today. The tournament is being organised by Desh Prem Azad Cricket Academy at St Stephen's School, Togan, near here.

YPSA piled up 119 for 7 in allotted 25 overs. Subeer hit seven boundaries. Kinderpreet contributed valuable 22 runs (3x4s). Sahil Sharma remained not out on 17 runs. Yash Kapil was the most successful bowler for HRCA as he took three wickets, giving 25 runs.

HRCA were given an exciting start by openers Abhinav and Yash Kapil, who hit 59 runs. Abhinav hit three fours in his knock of 24. Another player Deepak scored 17 runs. HRCA made 110 for 5 in allotted 25 overs. Subeer and Vaibhav got one wicket each for YPSA.

YPSA: 119 for 7 in 25 overs (Arsh Goel 19, Subeer 33, Kinderpreet 22, Yash Kapil 3 for 25).

HRCA: 110 for 6 in 25 overs (Abhinav 24, Yash Kapil 21, Mhenaz 1 for 20, Subeer 1 for 11).

Tomorrow's fixture: Cricket Academy-37 vs Patiala Gymkhana (10 am) at St Stephen's School, Togan.

3 DSPs transferred

Chandigarh, September 11
In a major reshuffle in the Chandigarh police, three deputy superintendents of police (DSP) and six inspectors were transferred today.

DSP Devinder Singh Thakur, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) (east), has been shifted to the Police Lines, while DSP Baljit Singh Chadha has been transferred from the Police Lines to the women and child support unit (WACSU).

Similarly, DSP P.K. Dhawan has been shifted from WACSU to SDPO (east). DSP Thakur will retire at the end of this month.

Inspector Rajesh Shukla, additional SHO of the police station-34, has been posted as SHO of the police station-39.

The police station-39 was being supervised by inspector Satbir Singh, in charge of the crime branch of the Chandigarh police, as additional charge.

Similarly, inspector Kehar Singh, additional SHO of Sector 17, has been shifted as additional SHO of the police station-34.

Inspector Bakshish Singh has been transferred from economic offences wing (EOW) to VIP security, while inspector Devinder Sharma of the traffic police has been designated as SHO of the police station-36. He will take charge after the retirement of inspector Ishwar Singh Mann, SHO of the police station-36, who will retire on September 30.

Also, inspectors Prem Chand and Ramesh Chander have been shifted to the EOW and CDI/RTC unit on promotion, respectively.

Prohibitory orders

Chandigarh, September 11
The district magistrate has prohibited commercial operations in restaurants, pubs, liquor shops, discos, clubs and by vendors sitting roadsides during late night. The running of such activities between 1am and 4.30am would be prohibited till November 10. — TNS
