India-Pakistan match
Chandigarh, September 12 The rates of the tickets for this forthcoming ODI tie were decided in a specially constituted committee held under the chairmanship of MP Sukhbir Badal at PCA premises today. The meeting was attended by PCA office-bearers, the principal secretaries of departments concerned of the state government as well as the Punjab DGP. The organising committee discussed the usual arrangements including boarding and lodging, stay of the guests, security, traffic control, technical arrangements, VIP visits and other facilities required for TV coverage, visiting media, etc. It is estimated that around 5,000 cricket enthusiasts from Pakistan would turn up for the match. The committee further authorised the chairman to take up the case with the Ministry of Home Affairs to give necessary acquiescence so that adequate arrangements could be made for their visit to Mohali. Meanwhile, SAD acting president and MP Sukhbir Badal said he had committed to create cricket infrastructure in terms of cricket stadium, playing fields and relevant facilities in every district of Punjab. The PCA assured its full cooperation, help and support for this venture. The construction of a cricket stadium of Bathinda was also discussed. Badal asserted that the state government would set up a Punjab Institute of Sports for various games and this would act as a centre of excellence. Promising support, the PCA officials stated that in case the state government undertook the project, the association would, for all its future international matches, add 10 pc surcharge to its tickets, which would be transferred as assistance for developing the institute.

‘Pitch’ing for an
exciting encounter
Chandigarh, September 12 The pitch was last laid in 2005. BCCI pitch committee chairman Daljit Singh has been supervising all works being done on the pitch, where the Men in Blue will take on the Kangaroos on October 8. It has been over 14 years when the last international match was played here. Talking to TNS, curator Daljit Singh said, “Though it is too early to predict about the behaviour of the pitch on the particular day, I can say it would not disappoint the fans as well as the players. We are aiming at a fast, hard and bouncy wicket to have an exciting match.” “At the moment, I can say that the pitch will assist bowlers in the initial overs, but later on, batsmen will make the most out of it,” he added, while expressing satisfaction over the progress of work at the stadium. The pitch is being prepared with utmost care. After removing the organic matter from the ground, it has been redressed with special soil. Echoing the views, general secretary of the Chandigarh Cricket Association Surinder Singh Baijee said, “This pitch happened to be a subject of debate and we worked hard to produce a surface that will give better results.” |
