Our Correspondent

Mandi Ahmedgarh, September 13
A little extra care in oral hygiene and dental care could save a person from falling prey to a stock of pathogens which can cause serious ailments like gastroenteritis, said Dr N.C. Mann, former additional director, Dental Health Services, Punjab, and a senior consultant at Christian Dental College, Ludhiana.

He was addressing a gathering during a free dental check-up and awareness camp organised at Government High School, Dhulkot, near here today. Around 200 patients were examined. The camp was inaugurated by Ravinder Puri, president, Journalists Association.

The camp was organised as a part of the Community Dentistry Programme launched by CMC Hospital. A mobile dental clinic equipped with modern sophisticated instruments was brought to the village.

Referring to observations made during camps organised at various villages and slums of the area, Dr Mann stated that rural people were more prone to gastroenteritis and dental problems due to poor oral hygiene and faulty dietary habits. Smoking and chewing tobacco were major factors behind the high incidence of oral cancer, he said.
