Cleft awareness meet today
Ludhiana, September 14 Dr John Pramod, director of CMCH, will be the chief guest at the function, which will be presided over by Dr SPS Grover, district governor of Rotary. Dr Vijay Obed, professor and head of department of plastic surgery and the president of the Rotary Club of Ludhiana north, said the meet would be attended by nearly 90 rotary clubs of the district. The awareness programme would include lectures and power point presentations, including photographs of patients, both before and after the surgery. — OC |
Rest of Punjab men register third win
Ludhiana, September 15 In the match played at Gure, RCF, Kapurthala players failed to cope with the onslaught leashed by Rest of Punjab. The winners, led by the current Indian captain Jagdep Singh, showed no mercy and kept on adding points regularly to wrap up the issue quite convincingly. Jagdeep netted 28 points and Gagandeep scored 13 while Dilawar and Mandeep contributed 8 and 6 points, respectively. For the losers, Sharanjit (10), Balbir (8) and Surinder (6) were the main scorers. In the second match, Punjab juniors fought a pitched battle against their experienced opponents, PSEB, before losing it 48-54. Punjab junior team represented by the students of Everest Public Senior Secondary School, Moti Nagar sports wing gave anxious moments to the PSEB cagers. However, they failed to overpower them and lost it closely. For the PSEB, Sukhpal with 20 points was the top scorer, followed by Gurpreet who netted 14 baskets. Harpreet and Manpreet accounted for 10 and 6 points, respectively. Punjab juniors waged the battle through Rajan Sharma (15), Lovedeep Sharma (14), Sandeep (9) and Lakbhir (7). In the women's section, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Rest of Punjab won their respective matches. The first match played between Jalandhar and Gurdaspur turned out to be a lacklustre affair with the former, romping home victorious 64-15. In other matches, Ludhiana eves beat Kapurthala 41-26 while Rest of Punjab outclassed Gurdaspur 61-42. |

Malwa school defeats Jarkhar academy
Ludhiana, September 15 Jarkhara academy lads who gave a good performance in their first match to rout Grewal Academy, Kila Raipur (11-2), could not repeat their perform. The Malwa school scored the first goal in the seventh minute of the game through a fine field goal scored by Akashdeep. They increased the lead in the twenty-fourth minute when Gagandeep scored the second goal. Prabhjot Singh converted a penalty corner in the thirty-four minute to further cement the lead 3-0. Immediately, into the second half, Sukhdev Singh and Jatinder sounded the board to enhance the lead 5-0. Jarkhar Academy managed to reduce the margin (5-1) in the forty-ninth minute through Gagandeep Singh. However, Malwa Khalsa school pumped in two more goals by Gagandeep and Kulbir Singh which sealed Jarkhar Academy lads’ fate 7-1. Earlier, in the day the match played between Kurali and Doraha ended in a goal-less draw. In th second match of the day, Grewal academy of Kila Raipur lost 1-3 to Sangrur and suffered their second defeat in a row. |
