Refer only critical cases, PGI appeals to hospitals
Chandigarh, September 19 The emergency of PGIMER, is working at 200 per cent of its approved capacity, which creates difficulties in providing prompt and efficient emergency services, rue the authorities. As many as 287 patients underwent treatment in the emergency ward of the institute today against its capacity of 110 beds. In addition, the emergency has 28 beds for the patients under observation. Large number of patients coming to PGI Emergency were referred even though the patients could be medically managed at the referring hospitals and health care facilities, the PGI spokesperson said. The increased number of patients adversely affects the workload on doctors and the rest of the staff, the spokesperson said. It also resulted in excessive workload on investigative, diagnostic and therapeutic facilities of PGI emergency. |
Gahlot bowls RCA to victory
Chandigarh, September 19 After winning the toss, RCA skipper invited MCA to bat. His decision paid rich dividends as MCA lost three quick wickets on just 28 runs in the 13th over. The team was bowled out for 141 runs in 41.3 overs. Only Anup Revenkar, who played a defiant knock of 34 runs, gave some respite to the team. Gahlot, who bowled six maiden overs during his 10-over spell, snapped four wickets, conceding just eight runs. He was ably supported by left-arm spinner M. Aslam, who finished with 32 for 3. Chasing the modest target of 142, Sidharth Joshi gave a flying start with 57 in 68 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes. Rohit Sharma also chipped in 46 off 68 with five fours and one six. Both batsmen stitched 99-run partnership for the first wicket. RCA won the match by six wickets putting on 144 for four in 29.4 overs. With the win, the team earned five points, including one bonus while MCA recorded minus one point. In the other match between Canara Bank and BPCL, Mumbai, the former beat the Mumbai team by 17 runs at the Sector 3 cricket stadium, Panchkula. Put to bat first, Canara Bank posted a total of 241 for eight in the allotted 50 overs. Bharat Chipli (60 off 90) and C. Ragu (41 off 58) were the main contributers. Deepak Chougle also contributed 33 off 52 balls. For BPCL, off-spinner Onkar Khanvilkar took three wickets for 43 whereas Rajesh Verma claimed two wickets for 39. In reply, BPCL were bundled out for 224 in 49.1 overs. S. Kotak (55 off 67) and Indulkar (25) were the main scorers. Former test player and left-arm spinner Sunil Joshi and N.C. Twenty20 Cricket Association of Uttar Pradesh won the toss and elected to bat. They scored 164 for nine wickets in allotted 20 overs. Balender’s knock of 60 runs proved futile and J&K bowlers dominated the proceedings throughout. Amya, Rakesh shine in CCA win
Chandigarh, September 19 In the first innings, CCA made a massive score of 300 runs in 78 overs while Bhiwani was bundled out at meagre 96 runs. However, in the 2nd innings, Bhiwani were all out on 175 in 56 overs. Dharmendra was their top scorer with unbeaten 61 runs with 10 fours while Bhupindra scored 24 runs. Rohit of CCA bowled 12 overs and took three wickets at the cost of 19 runs. Jagdish Hinta, Amya and Rakesh took two wickets each. The final verdict was given in favour of CCA on the basis of the first innings’ lead. At the end of the day, CCA won by an innings and 29 runs. The team got three points. CCA, topping the group, will play their last match against Gurgaon on October 21 and 22. |

Chandigarh Region win cricket titles
Chandigarh, September 19 In the u-16 cricket, CR beat JR by five wickets. CR won the toss and allowed the opponents to bat. JR were bundled out for 93 runs in 19.1 overs. Captain of the team Siddharth was the only batsman, who chipped in 47 runs. CR surpassed the target with five wickets in hand. In the u-19 match, CR bagged the series by 2-1. A brilliant unbeaten knock of 94 runs by Rohit Rai helped his team to pile up a competitive total of 160 runs for five wickets in allotted 25 overs. In reply, JR was bundled out for 80 runs in 19 overs. Meanwhile, in handball and volleyball, CR emerged winners while JR were the runners-up. In kho-kho, JR emerged winners while CR were the runners-up. Assistant commissioner S.S. Sehrawat and principal of KV-31 S.P. Shergill blessed the players and hoped that they would bring accolades to their region in the KVs National Games and Sports Meet to be held at Bhopal in October. |
