Serious lapses on the part of the Ministry of Civil Aviation came to the fore when a former pilot found his commercial pilot’s licence number being used by a pilot of the Indian Airlines. This has brought the officials of civil aviation under a scanner.
A former pilot, Harjeet Singh, having licence No. 3872 was shocked after he came to know that his licence was being used by some Suhas Raju working with the Indian Airlines in Chennai.
A pass-out of 2000 batch from the North India Flying Club, Patiala, Harjeet Singh of Pathankot failed to renew his licence after it lapsed in 2002 due to certain domestic problems. To return to his profession he checked a website on civic aviation authorities a couple of days back and was astonished on finding his licence being used by some other person.
He also found that the civil aviation authorities had issued the licence to Suhas, Poovakulam House, Kothanalur Kottyam, Kerala, 686632. The licence was renewed on January 27, 2006, at the IAM, Bangalore.
Talking to The Tribune, Harjeet, who presently is earning his livelihood by taking tuitions, said the licence for which he spent days and nights together had been issued by certain unscrupulous officials of the ministry of civial aviation through fraudulent means.
Harjeet has complained to the director-general of civil aviation and the President of India, claiming that there was no such procedure that one licence could be issued to two persons. He has sought an inquiry by the vigilance wing of the Indian Airlines in this regard.
Being abroad, the director-general of civil aviation (DGCA) Kanu Gohian could not be contacted. Deputy director-general M.T. Bokarde said that he would look into the matter.
