New Delhi, September 20
Paying the price for its doctored sting operation on Uma Khurana, a teacher of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Daryaganj, Delhi, satellite channel ‘Janmat’ has been banned for a month.
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry today announced its decision to prohibit the transmission and re-transmission of ‘Janmat’ (assumed name Live India) on all platforms across the country. The ban comes into effect from today.
The prohibition has been imposed in terms of sub-section (2) of Section 20 of the Cable Television Networks Regulation Act, 1995.
The ministry observed that the telecast of the said sting operation was “defamatory, deliberate, false and contained suggestive innuendos and half-truths; incited violence and contained content against the maintenance of law and order.”
The ministry further said that the sting operation “criticised, maligned and slandered an individual in person and denigrated children and was irresponsibly aired by the channel without exercise of due diligence in preliminary verification of the facts of the case.”
