Anishka is ‘Hungama’ captain

Anishka Sharma, a Class V student of Saraswati Modern High School here, has been selected as Hungama TV captain, the auditions for which were held at BCM School. An excited Anishka said it was a proud moment for the entire family when they got a call from the organisers about her selection.

Talking to Ludhiana Tribune, Anishka said she had not made any special preparations for the auditions. “It was all natural. There were no extra efforts. We went for screening where I was asked to perform on any number. I performed on the song “Chhote chhote shehron se…” from Bunty aur Bubly, which was appreciated a lot,” said Anishka, who participates in extra-curricular activities in her school on a regular basis.

She added that if she wants to get further training in dance, she would be given a sponsorship worth Rs 1 lakh by Hungama TV for one year. She said out of 1100 selected kids from Ludhiana on day one, 30 kids were shortlisted, who exhibited their creativity, spontaneity and imagination during the two rounds called “Kahan Ki Masti” and “Jaan Pehchan” during the auditions.

Anishka will represent Ludhiana and will be an important part of the only “Board of Kid Directors” in India at Hungama TV. “After every three months, all the selected captains will be called to Mumbai by the company for training. I will make sure that my studies are not affected,” she said.

Ten-year-old Anishka wants to be an actor. “This is just a platform. If I get good roles, I will take up acting and give it my best”, said Anishka confidently.

Huge turnout for school panel poll

Khanna, September 23
The sub-divisional headquarter town of Khanna today witnessed hectic activity all through the day, as a large number of registered voters turned up to caste their votes to elect the 20-member management committee that would run the affairs of the A.S. High School Trust and Educational Society for the next three years.

The elections concluded without any untoward incident with 4,084 voters casting their votes out of a total of 4,976 registered.

This time 40 candidates supported either by the Congress or BJP, along with two independents, had filed their nominations for the elections.

Out of these, 42 contenders, 20 would be elected as members of the management committee, the results of which would be declared tomorrow.

Voting was held on the premises of the A.S. Senior Secondary School.

KIMT students bring laurels

Ludhiana, September 23
The students of the Khalsa Institute of Management and Technology for Women (KIMT) brought laurels to the institute by securing excellent marks in BCA fourth semester examination held in June 2007 by Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar.

Dimple Arora got first position in the institute by securing 85 per cent marks, Kirandeep Kaur secured second position by obtaining 84 per cent marks and Silky Singla stood third with 81 per cent marks in the institute.

KIMT director Dr Vijay Asdhir and Dr R.S. Gupta, dean academics, said the average pass percentage (68 per cent) of the institute was much higher than the university pass percentage. All the students passed in first division. Pritpal Singh Grewal, president, and Dr S.S. Grewal, vice president of the managing committee, congratulated the students.

Study

The study, conducted by Rajni Sofat and Preeti Hiro of the Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology(GNIMT) on the topic, “Creativity and Innovations in retail banking” has been published in the Indian Journal of Marketing (IJM), September 2007. This comparative study offers a comprehensive analysis of the range of personal banking products offered by ICICI and HDFC bank and focuses on creativity and innovation in the various financial products offered by these two banks. The study is based on certain parameters of analysis namely: Accounts and deposits loans, investments, cards, forex, payment, access to the Bank etc. An elaborate discussion along with the identification of innovative products has been undertaken. The study also covers the star performing products of both ICICI and HDFC Bank.

IBM placement

A campus placement drive was held at the Government College for Women by IBM Daksh, a leading BPO Company, from Gurgaon recently. Sixty-one students of the college were selected and were issued “letter of intent” stating that they could join the organisation after completion of their graduation.

Placement cell coordinators Dr Mamta Kochhar and prof Gurmeet Singh welcomed the IBM team, comprising of Varun Sharma, Shikha Sibal, Rishi Chawla and Akshat Sharma from the human resource department of the company. A presentation was made, followed by the interview and assessment on logical reasoning, grammer and PC skills. A total of 115 students appeared for the interview, out of which 61 students were selected.

Stock exchange

The Commerce and Management club of Kamla Lohtia SD College organised a visit for M.Com. and B.Com. students to Ludhiana Stock Exchange (LSE), here on Saturday. Jagjit Singh Arneja, senior manager, LSE, gave a brief overview of the working of the exchange. Puja Kohli, officiating ED, presented an overview of the capital market and discussed various aspects of it.

Shami Kohli gave a demonstration of trading session of the market. It was followed by a question-answer round in which queries of the students were answered. Prof Rajesh Marwaha thanked Ludhiana Stock Exchange for providing knowledge and awareness to the students. The principal, Deepak Kaushal, praised the members of the department for undertaking such visit.

City gets taste of humour

The artistes of Rang Manch Rang Nagri treated the audience at Punjabi Bhawan to a good dose of humour last night through the play “Neem Hakeem”.

The young theatre director Jagdev Singh had adopted this play from an English play, “Dr Mock” written by O Mokar in pure Punjabi.

The story revolves round a lazy, lethargic, drunkard husband, Lakkarhaara Budhu, whose wife is fed up with him. She comes across two youth who are on the look out of a doctor for the treatment of the dumb daughter of their master Tyab Ali. She presents her husband as a doctor to treat Tyab Ali’s daughter.

The artistes included Rajinder Jasal, Gurpeet Kaur, Ritu, Seema, Anurag, Rajnish Sahota, Tarlochan Singh, Kiran and Abhishek.
