Third dengue case confirmed in Mohali
Mohali, September 24 District health officer Dr S.P. Surila said today that the latest case was reported from Phase III B-1 this evening. Hardeep Kaur, aged 69, was suffering from fever and had been tested positive. The other two confirmed cases were of Jagwinder Singh from Phase VI and Tarun from Phase IV. The three are undergoing treatment at the PGI, Chandigarh. Three patients suspected to be suffering from dengue had approached a private hospital in Phase III B-2. Surila said these patients would have to undergo one more test within 10 days to find out whether they suffered from dengue or not. The district health authorities are trying to find out the reasons for the outbreak of dengue in the town by personally visiting the areas from where cases were reported. A rapid action team found out that Jagwinder Singh had spent about nine days in Amritsar before coming to the town and it was being suspected that he brought the virus from there. The third patient, Tarun was a student and went to Chandigarh to study and it was suspected that the virus might have been carried. Moreover, he was living next to a house, which was lying locked for quite some time and could have become a breeding place for mosquitoes. Even as the health authorities are spreading awareness about the disease, the Municipal Council has been asked to carry out fogging during daytime to check the increase of mosquitoes that caused dengue. |
