Protest march by doctors
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, September 26
Responding to a call by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), hundreds of doctors and medical students today held a protest march against the increasing incidents of assaults on members of the medical fraternity and registration of cases under Section 304-A of the IPC.

They submitted a memorandum to the district administration and met the SSP, calling for action against those who indulged in violence at a local nursing home earlier this week. They also demanded the withdrawal of case against a city doctor.

Addressing a rally, IMA president Arun Mitra maintained that medical professionals performed moral, professional and ethical duty towards patients with diligence and no doctor would ever want to cause harm to a patient.

“Holistic care, being a part of the our basic training, becomes a part of our mindset. However, despite best efforts, mishaps do happen once in a while. In such situations, the doctors have to face the wrath of an unruly mob. A bad outcome of any critically ill patient cannot always be attributed to negligence or lack of proper medical care,” he said.

While demanding the withdrawal of case against Dr R.K. Aggarwal, they urged the government to take measures to stop assaults on doctors.
