Ludhiana, September 28 In the first semi-final, Shimla division survived some anxious moments from Bikaner division before romping home victorious 25-14, 25-12 and 25-17. In the second semi final, Delhi division faced stiff challenge in the first set as Chandigarh division gave tight fight before losing it 14-25. In the second set, Delhi players found a little resistance and wrapped it quite easily 25-9. Chandigarh division tried their best in the deciding set but failed to cope up with speed and accuracy exhibited by the champions, who won it 25-11 and stormed into the final scheduled for tomorrow. Earlier, Bikaner division had to toil hard to overcome Ludhiana division 19-25, 25-15, 26-24 and 25-18; Jaipur division got the better of Rohtak division 25-15, 25-8 |
MRF Chennai beat
PCC for berth in finals
Mohali, September 28 Batting first, the PCC scored 260 for 5 in the allotted 44 overs as the match was curtailed due to bad weather. Providing a solid start, Ravneet Ricky (43 off 71) and Uday Kaul (48) shared a 97-run partnership. Chasing 261, MRF Chennai gave a befitting reply as its openers Daniel Manohar and Shikhar Dhawan scored unbeaten 125 runs and 76 off 61 runs, respectively. Putting up brilliant batting performances, Daniel punished all the bowlers of PCC. MRF Chennai achieved the target with 14 balls to spare. Daniel was adjudged man of the match.

Rohtak schoolboys are hockey champs
Ludhiana, September 28 Aggarsain Public School, Sirsa, secured six points to emerge champions in the girl’s u-14 years of the CBSE North Zone II Hockey Tournament which concluded at Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar, here today. The four-day tournament was organised on league basis. M.D.N Public School, Rohtak, got four points to finish runners up while Arya Girls Public School, Panipat, with two points had to remain content with third place. In the boy's u-19 years group, Spring Dale Public School, Amritsar, accumulated six points to lift the title while Pooja Modern Public School, Pipli, finished runners up with four points. Moti Lal Nehru Sports School, Rai (Sonepat), got two points and had to content with third position. Narinder Pal Singh, DIG, Police range, Jalandhar, gave away prizes to the position holders. Jasbir Singh, Surinder Singh, Jaswant Singh Makkar, Rajpal Singh, Jagmohan Singh, B.R.Bhardwaj, Rajinder Singh, all members of the management committee of Guru Nanak Public School along with faculty members were present at the prize distribution function. |

KVM to host chess meet
Ludhiana, September 28 S.C.Saxena, principal of the host school, said about 75 teams from various schools of Punjab and Haryana would be seen in action during the three-day tournament. Various committees have been formed to make this event a scuccess, he added. |

Shaheet Bhagat Singh Academy inaugurated
Samrala, September 28 On this occasion, the president of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sports Club, Taranjeet Singh Mangat, and coach Baljeet Singh said this sports academy will encourage the youths of the area. More than 100 children, below 13 years, will learn for their good health. To avoid intoxicants by the youths of the area, the academy will also hold seminars, blood donarion camps etc. The children of Madpur, Rohle, Dhanda, Ladhran Chahalan, Lopon and Rampur Katani villages come here daily where coach Baljeet Singh gives PT exercises and teaches kabaddi and volleyball also. |
