At last, some thought for Asia Cup winners

New Delhi, September 28
Enthused by the inspirational film “Chak De India” and moved by pleas of the hockey community, the State Bank of India today decided to award Rs 5 lakh each to the members of the Indian hockey team which recently won the Asia Cup tournament in Chennai.

“There was no agenda but spontaneity of the issue caught each of us in the board meeting and everybody said we should announce a token of appreciation to the hockey team,” SBI chairman O P Bhatt told PTI. “The SBI which never in its 200 years history has announced any reward for cricketers was moved by theme of the film ‘Chak De India’ and the spirit of the lead character Shah Rukh Khan”, he added.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Government today announced a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh each to hockey players from the state and their coach Joaquim Carvalho. Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said Adrian D’souza, Sivendra Singh, Gurbaz Singh and coach Joaquim Carvalho will get Rs 5 lakh each. — PTI
