Telemedicine to change face of healthcare: Doc
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, October 5
“Telemedicine will change the healthcare scenario in the country in coming years as a doctor will be able to work at multiple locations simultaneously, which will help reduce the burden of patient overflow to big hospitals as well as provide superspeciality treatment even in remote areas,” said Prof B.K. Rao, chairman, board of management, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, here today.

Professor Rao was here to deliver the keynote address at three-day “Critical Care-2007” conference at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32.

The conference, organised by the department of anaesthesia and intensive care, GMCH, on “Newer trends and challenges in clinical practice” is directed towards specialists who treat patients in the ICU, cardiac care unit (CCU), including anaesthesiologist, chest physicians, surgeons, paediatricians, critical care nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Clinical care will be located everywhere as doctors stationed at remote places connected with telemedicine centres will be able to communicate with doctors at superspeciality hospitals, sending him imaging of X-ray or ultrasound, lab diagnosis, and treat patients in their hospitals in most cases, said Dr Rao.
