MGKCG celebrates its 10th anniversary
B-Block of college inaugurated

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the college, Avtar Singh Makkar, president SGPC, Amritsar, today inaugurated the B-Block of the Mata Ganga Khalsa College For Women, Manji Sahib, Kottan.

The president applauded the efforts of the college managing committee, principal, staff and the students of the college for making sincere efforts of developing the institution by dint of their hard work and strenuous efforts. He also announced a grant of Rs 20 lakh for further development of the college.

Avtar Singh Makkar also inaugurated the computer labs and new generator of the college. He distributed uniforms to the college employees. He also announced that a directorate for upliftment of educational institutions would be appointed shortly.

The principal, staff, students and the guests participated in the Bhog Shri Sehaj Path. Shabad Kirtan was recited by the Kirtani Jatha from Kotala Ajner.

Principal Manjinder Kaur welcomed the chief guest and other guests present on this occasion.

Kirpal Singh Badungar, former president SGPC, Dalmegh Singh, secretary, SGPC, and Gurmohan Singh, principal, Mata Gujri College, congratulated the principal for their efforts.

Siropa was presented to Avtar Singh Makkar and Baba Gurmail Singh for their contribution to the college.

Raghbir Singh Saharanmajra, additional secretary of college managing committee, extended the vote of thanks in the end. Kanwalinder Singh, Surjit Singh Garri (executive member, SGPC), principal Daya Singh Dhaliwal, Bhupinder Singh Cheema, Mr. Manpreet Singh, Bhai Harpal Singh, Mr. Charanjit Singh, Kamikar Singh and jathedar Bharpoor Singh were also present on the occasion.

PU announces dates for annual exams

Panjab University has announced that the annual examination for the ongoing academic session will commence from April 1, 2008. In the first batch, the examination will start for all the three year classes of BA, BSc, BCom, BBA and BCA.

An official press release said the examination for MA, MFC, MSc, BLib and information science, MCom and all diploma courses will commence from April 15 onwards. Examination for shashtri and LLM courses will begin from April 22 onwards. A university press release said the examination for BEd, MEd, BEd (yoga), BPEd and MPEd will commence on May 14 onwards.

The university has fixed November 15 as the last date for receipt of examination forms without any late fee. Students will have to pay a fee of Rs 1200 in case the forms are submitted till November 22 and Rs 3500 in case the forms are deposited till February 1, 2008. Student will have to shelve a fine of Rs 7000 if the forms are deposited till March 1 and Rs 14,000 if deposited after till March 21.

In case of regular students of colleges and correspondence studies, students are required to deposit their forms till December 14, without any late fee. A student will be levied a late fee of Rs 1200 if the forms are deposited till March 21. In case, the forms are deposited till February 1, 2008, students will have to shelve out a fine of Rs 3500. Students who deposit their fee till March 1 will be required to pay a fine of Rs 7000 and those depositing the forms after March 1 till March 21 will have to pay an additional amount of Rs 14000.

Latin American diplomats visit PAU

A team of diplomats representing different countries, including ambassadors of Cuba, Miquel Angel Ramirez Ramos, Chile, Ricardo Leon Valdes, Argentine Republic, Ernesto C. Alvarez, Peru, Carlos A. Irigoyen Forno, Ecuador, Carlos Abad, Mexico, Rogelio Granguillhome, Bolivarian Republic, Venezuela, Milena Santana Ramirez, and high commissioners of Republic of Guyana, J. Ronald Gajraj, Paraguay, G. Vicente Pappalardo and minister counsellor of Domnmican Republic Maria Gabriella Bonetti visited Punjab Agricultural University today morning.

The team leader Varunesh Tuli of Brazil said the ambassadors and high commissioners intended to have interactions with the VC and other officers to get an insight about the ongoing programmes at the PAU that has created a remarkable niche in the international arena. He said they wanted to explore the areas for collaborative ventures.

The PAU VC, Dr Manjit Singh Kang, apprised the team about the achievements and future agenda of PAU as far as the research, teaching and extension education is concerned. Dr Kang said PAU was open to collaborate with any country in fostering research and development efforts in the ambit of its prioritised demand driven agenda. It has signed agreements with a number of countries in the world in different areas of research and there exists a great scope for collaborative agreements with Latin American countries, said Dr Kang.

Dr G.S.Chahal, director of research, PAU, shared the PAU research programmes and achievements whereas, Dr N.S.Malhi, director of extension education, briefed about extension education and transfer of technology programmes. Dr R.K.Mahey, registrar, Dr Tejwant Singh, dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, Dr S. Jaswal, dean, College of Home Science, Dr V.K.Sehgal, dean, College of Agricultural Engineering, Dr Milkha Singh Aulakh, additonal director of research (agriculture), and Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman, additional director of communication, also gave brief introduction about the activities in their jurisdiction areas.

The additional deputy commissioner and sub-divisional magistrate from district administration also accompanied the delegation.

125 students take part in group song contest

Ludhiana, October 11
Group song contest was organised by Ved Prachar Mandel at RS Model Senior Secondary School here today.

As many as 125 students from eight schools participated in this contest. The students of Bhartya Vadya Mandir Udham Singh Nagar stood first in the competition. St Bawara School and Sanatan Vidya Mandir School won the second and third place respectively.

Chief Guest Harish Rai Dhanda distributed the prizes to the winner teams and exhorted the students to inculcate the spirit of patriotism.
