Ludhiana, October 11 Civil surgeon Dr S.P. Sharma inaugurated the camp. CMCH director Dr John Pramod was the guest of honour. Among other dignitaries present at the function were Dr John Abraham, principal, Manpreet Chadha, project manager, Orbis International, Dr J.M Singh and Dr S.S. Johl, former vice-chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala. Elaborating on the importance of vision screening among children, Dr Harpreet Kapoor, head, department of ophthalmology said the reasons behind blindness among children were cataract, refractive errors, squint, trauma, glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity and vitamin A deficiency. An ultra-modern gastroenterology wing will be inaugurated at AIMC Bassi Hospital tomorrow. Dr Naresh Bassi and Dr Madhu Bassi said yesterday that minister for local bodies Manoranjan Kalia would inaugurate it and president of the state unit of the BJP Rajinder Bhandari would preside over the function. |

17 schools take part in kho kho tourney
Mandi Ahmedgarh, October 11 Gurjit Singh Romana, SP, Ludhiana (Rural), inaugurated the tournament and Raikot DSP Narinder Pal Singh Ruby was the chief guest. According to school principal Kuldip Singh, the players, besides exhibiting their best during the march past vowed to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship in their life and abide by rules set by the organizers. Alamjit Kaur of the host school administered them the oath. Teams from DAV Public School, Philaur, KVM Public School, Ludhiana, Shamrock Public School, Ludhiana, Satluj Public School and the host institute won their respective matches
to reach semifinals. 10 Everest school students selected for b’ball championship
Ludhiana, October 11 These players helped the Ludhiana team last year to win title at Patiala. The cagers from this school also represented the state in the national schools basketball league which secured first position. Rajinder Sharma, principal of the school, said that students of this school Yadwinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Sukhbir Singh Dhillon and Dilawar Singh have also represented India in the international
tournaments. Dilawar Singh was among the 50 boys selected from all over Asia to take part in the Basketball without Border Championship held early this year in China. He was named the best ‘three shooter’ in this event. Dilawar has also been shortlisted for the Indian squad for the Asian Basketball Championship slated to be held early next year, Sharma said. |

PAU to host lawn tennis tourney
Ludhiana, October 11 According to Ramandeep Singh Grewal, deputy director, sports, PAU, the Indian hockey team, around 130 sportspersons from 26 universities, including agricultural and humanities, will be vying for top honours during this six-day event.
