Dehra Dun, October 11
Forty two persons, mostly pilgrims from Orissa returning from Badrinath, were killed when the bus, they were travelling in, fell into a gorge in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand today.
Rescue teams have fished out 40 bodies so far. Two rescued persons are in critical condition.
The bus, carrying 44 persons, fell into the gorge in Alakananda river at around 5 p.m.
According to district magistrate G.S. Gabriyal: “The passengers were from Orissa. We have fished out 40 bodies.”
He said rescue teams have discontinued search due to darkness setting in.
Details of the victims were being obtained
from the travel agent in Hardwar, he informed. — IANS
