‘Integrating farming yields good results’
Ludhiana, October 12 According to Dr M.S. Toor, associate professor, the systems adopted by farmers gave 18 to 109 per cent higher net returns when compared with rice-wheat farming system. Further, highest water productivity of Rs 5.6 per metre cube was achieved in fishery-piggery enterprise as compared to 2.6 per metre cube in rice-wheat system. The study also revealed that the per hectare net returns from dairy and vegetables were Rs 48,455 and Rs 17,803 more than rice-wheat system. Toor said the contribution of dairy, vegetables and rice-wheat in returns on per hectare basis was 47, 31 and 22 per cent, respectively. The dairy enterprises created maximum employment of 70.5 per cent while in vegetables and crops the employment generation was 27.2 and 2.3 per cent, respectively. — TNS |
