4.69 lakh MT paddy purchased: DC

Expressing his satisfaction over the efficient procurement in all 100 mandis in this district, deputy commissioner Sumer Singh Gurjar has directed district heads of various agencies and other supervisory officers to keep a vigil on the operations to ensure that farmers did not face any problem in selling their produce.

Addressing a meeting of officials at the mini secretariate here today, the deputy commissioner sought the cooperation of the staff of procurement agencies for the purchase of paddy in the district.

Officials of the food and supplies department and other agencies maintained that procurement was going on smoothly and the machinery had been geared up to ensure the efficient purchase, shift paddy to godowns and make payments at the earliest.

Gurjar said till October 12, the procurement stood at 4,69,357 MT of paddy as against last year’s 3,96,705 MT till the corresponding day.

He added that highest quantity of paddy (1,29,652 MT) had been purchased by traders and millers, followed by 1,00,980 MT by Pungrain, 91,696 MT by Punsup, 66,913 MT by Markfed, 38,073 MT by Punjab Agro, 35,880 MT by the PSWC and 6,163 MT by the FCI.

The deputy commissioner claimed that 80 per cent of the paddy purchased to date had been lifted from the market and 95 per cent of the total payment had been made to farmers.

He asked SDMs and tehsildars to make daily inspection of mandis to oversee the procurement operation and redress the problems, if any, being faced by farmers on the spot.

Those present at the meeting included SDM (east) Jagwinderjit Singh, SDM (west) S.M. Sharma, Jagraon SDM Gulovleen Singh, Raikot SDM Mukand Singh Sandhu, Samrala SDM Sukhdev Singh, SDM Khanna Sukhminder Singh Gill, DFSC Simrjot Kaur and district mandi officer Rajpal Singh.

RIMT students organise freshers party

A welcome party was jointly organised at RIMT-IMCT campus by senior classes of the RIMT institute of management and computer technology and Gobindgarh institute of management and technology last night. In the programme, students of BBA, BCA, MBA, MCA, MSc and PGDCA took part. A noted industrialist and philanthropist Hukam Chand Bansal started the function by lighting the lamp. Co-chairperson of the trust Neena Bansal was the guest of honour. Director general of the institute Dr B.S. Bhatia thanked the students and their parents and assured them of all kind of support for their all-round development.

Arti, a senior student of MBA, welcomed the freshers on the behalf of all seniors.

On this occasion, upcoming professional singers Jassi Jaspal, Paminder Prince, Jamandeep and comedian Ninja also performed as guest artists.

Shivani Makkar and Harish Kumar of MBA were selected Miss Fresher and Mr Fresher, respectively. The titles of Mr Gorgeous and Mr Handsome went to Vishal Sachdeva of BBA and Jaskiran Kaur of MBA, respectively. The singer of the evening award went to Priya of MBA.

All set for youth festival at college

The official machinery of SCD Government college, Ludhiana, is all geared up to hold the Panjab University diamond jubilee youth festival from October 15 to 18 at Sahir auditorium of the college.

Principal of the college Dr Malkiat Singh said the youth festivals are the medium to teach our young generation about our cultural and heritage.

He further said protection of cultural and heritage values are must for preserving our identity on this earth. While giving the details of the programme, he said Dr Upinderjit Kaur, minister for education, will inaugurate the youth festival on October 15 along with cabinet minister jathedar Hira Singh Gabria, deputy speaker Satpal Gosain and parliamentary secretary Harish Rai Dhanda.

Giving schedule of the cultural festival he said, on the inagural day competition will include, group shabad, bhajan, group song, geet, ghazal, folk song.

On October 16, Prof Rajinder Bhandari, president of the Punjab Pradesh Bhartiaya Janata Party (BJP), will inaugurate the festival. Gidha and bhangra will be performed on the second day.

On the third day, Priyank Bhanrti, ADC, Ludhiana, and Dr Kanwarjit Singh, DPI (colleges), Punjab, will preside over the theatre items.

On the concluding day, Harish Bedi, MLA, Ludhiana (north), will preside over the heritage festival.

While giving the details of participating colleges, Prof Ashwani Bhalla, official spokesman of the college said as many as 15 colleges of Ludhiana Zon -A, affiliated to Panjab University, will participate in the youth festival which includes colleges of Ludhiana, Khanna and Doraha.

He further added that winning teams of this zonal youth festival will participate in the inter-zonal youth festival.

He further said, from October 16 to 18, Punjab heritage exhibition will be organised with the theme “Aaja Mere Pind the Nuhar vekh lai” under the supervision of Prof Nachattar Singh, Prof Balwinder kaur and other faculty members of the department of Punjabi studies.

DLSA holds state-level lok adalat

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) today organised pre-litigation lok adalat under the supervision of its chairman- GK Rai, District and Sessions Judge, Ludhiana.

Talking to Ludhiana Tribune, Rai said the adalat was organised in order to make the state-level lok adalat, scheduled for November 17, a grand success. He said eight benches were constituted in order to resolve the disputes between parties before the institution of cases in court.

All these benches took up disputes between the ICICI bank and their clients. More than 2800 cases were taken up today and efforts were made by the judicial officers to settle the disputes.

Rai further apprised that cases invloving matrimonial disputes, cheque bounce, civil suits, civil appeals, criminal cases of compoundable nature, disputes between bankers and clients, disputes between labourers and employers, consumer forum cases, traffic challans, pre-litigative cases etc. would be taken up in this adalat. In the coming days, pre-lok adalats would also be held to settle the disputes in pending cases.

Judicial Magistrates- Ranjan Khullar, Charanjit Arora, Kawaljit Singh, S S Jossan, Randhir Verma, Jagdeep Sood, K S Sullar and Vijay Kumar headed the pre-litigation lok-adalat benches in assistance with social workers and lawyers.
