Ludhiana, October 16
The sports wing of the Everest Public Senior Secondary School, Moti Nagar, Ludhiana, emerged winners in the Punjab State Schools Basketball Championship for boys (u-19) held from October 11 to 15 at Kotkpura.
In this three-tier tournament, cagers from this school won their league matches against Kapurthala district 68-39, Muktsar 58-34 and Faridkot 52-22 to top their group.
In quarter finals, Everest School boys defeated Patiala 72-57 and qualified for the semi-finals, super league, where three other teams from Sports Wing, Kotkpura, Sports School, Jalandhar and Muktsar district, fought for top honours.
In the super league, Everest School lads beat Sports School, Jalandhar, by 97-82; outplayed Muktsar 41-24 and outnumbered Sports wing, Kotkpura 69-54 to wrap up the title.
The members of the winning team were honoured today at Guru Nanak Stadium where officials of the Ludhiana District Basketball Association along with Rajinder Sharma, principal of Everest Public School, and Dr S Subramaniun, senior coach, were present to congratulate the players.
