Everest boys champs

Ludhiana, October 16
The sports wing of the Everest Public Senior Secondary School, Moti Nagar, Ludhiana, emerged winners in the Punjab State Schools Basketball Championship for boys (u-19) held from October 11 to 15 at Kotkpura.

In this three-tier tournament, cagers from this school won their league matches against Kapurthala district 68-39, Muktsar 58-34 and Faridkot 52-22 to top their group.

In quarter finals, Everest School boys defeated Patiala 72-57 and qualified for the semi-finals, super league, where three other teams from Sports Wing, Kotkpura, Sports School, Jalandhar and Muktsar district, fought for top honours.

In the super league, Everest School lads beat Sports School, Jalandhar, by 97-82; outplayed Muktsar 41-24 and outnumbered Sports wing, Kotkpura 69-54 to wrap up the title.

The members of the winning team were honoured today at Guru Nanak Stadium where officials of the Ludhiana District Basketball Association along with Rajinder Sharma, principal of Everest Public School, and Dr S Subramaniun, senior coach, were present to congratulate the players.

Bodybuilding championship on Oct 22

The Punjab Bodybuilding Championship in the junior and senior section will be held on the PAP campus, Jalandhar, on October 22. Competition in the under 21 and above 21 years of age groups will be conducted in this meet.

According to Dr Randhir Hastir, general secretary, Punjab Amateur Bodybuilding Association, performance during this one-day championship will be be taken into consideration while selecting the Punjab squads for the coming Federation Cup to be held at Salem, Tamil Nadu from December 21 to 23; Junior National Bodybuilding Championship slated to be held in Orissa in January, 2008, and Mr North India Championship scheduled to be held at Bikaner on January 3, 2008.

Yokozuna in city on Oct 27

Ludhiana, October 16
The wrestling legend, Yokozuna, will be the star attraction in the world star wrestling championship “India vs Rest of World- War of Legends” scheduled to be held in Punjab from October 26 to 28. Yokozuna, from Japan, is considered to be the world’s largest athlete.

The events in the championship will be held at Jalandhar on October 26, Ludhiana 27 and Patiala on October 28.
