Martial arts camp at Sacred Heart
Ludhiana, October 17 The duo gave tips to students in improving flexibility, strength and grappling techniques. They also demonstrated and taught various self- defence techniques which are easy to learn and use for women. Principal, Sacred Heart Convent School, and Om Parkash, president, Indian Martial Arts Association, thanked the visiting martial arts experts for sharing their knowledge and experience with those attending the camp. |

LBA trainees clinch top honours
Ludhiana, October 17 The duo emerged champions in the doubles’ category of the 21st National Sub-Junior Badminton Championship held from Octobre 11 to 16 at Dehra Dun. In the final,Raj Kumar and Pranav overpowered international shutlers Sai Praneet of Kerala and Prannoy of Andhra Pradesh. Sai and Prannoy made to the quarter finals of the Asian Badminton Tournament held in August at Vietnam. At Dehra Dun, Ludhiana lads bravely fought before going down 18-21 in the first set. However, they bounced back in the next 21-17 to level the score one all. In the deciding third game, Pranav and Raj Kumar gave no chance to their experienced opponents and wrapped it up at 21-10 which fetched them the double's title. Rajinder Kalsi, secretary, Punjab Badminton Association, congratulated the boys and their coach, Mangat Rai Sharma, on bringing fame to the state. Ravi Jain and Varinder Goel, senior vice-president and treasurer, respectively of the LBA, have also lauded the city boys' performance and wished them more success in the future tournaments. |

Ludhiana, October 17 Harinderjit and Prabhpreet Singh accounted one goal each for the Jarkhar academy while Lakhbir Singh was the lone scorer for the Sansarpur academy. In other matches,Ludhiana and the Rail Coach Factory sports wing, Kapurthala, won their respective encounters. Ludhiana overpowered Takhanwadh 1-0 while Kapurthala lads outclassed Sangrur academy 4-2. The fourth match was played between Dale ke Brothers XI of Moga and Ropar in which the former came out triumphant 6-4. |

Jarkhar, Sangrur assure berth in semifinal
Ludiana, October 17 Rail Coach Factory sports wing outplayed Ropar 4-1 to assure themselves a place in the last four stage. The match played between Ludhiana and Sansarpur Academy was decided through a tie breaker after the two sides remained tied 5-all at the end of the regular period. Ludhiana boy, eventually won 9-7 to advance into the semifinal. Jarkhar Academy proved too good for their opponents-Takahanwadh sports wing whom they drubbed 5-1 to enter the semis while Sangrur Academy managed to scrape past Dale ke Brothers XI, Moga 5-3. The issue was resolved via tie breaker since the stipulated time failed to produce any result as the score sheet read 2-all. |
