New technique for treating cornea
Ludhiana, October 20 The new surgical treatment for Keratoconus, Dr Dhami said increases collagen by strengthening the cornea. This procedure is one time treatment and the progression of the disease is halted once the stabilization is achieved. Colorectal
cancer CMCH organised a lecture on screening of colorectal cancer by Dr Ian Roberts Thomson, director of gastroenterology and hepatology, Adelaide University, Australia. Stressing on the need for early detection of the condition, Dr Thomson said usually there were no symptoms of colorectal cancer in its early stage when it begins as a polyp in the colon. A polyp can take five to ten years to become cancerous for people of average risk, which include an age of 50 plus, a family history of cancer of the colon or rectum, a personal history of cancer of the colon, rectum, ovary, endometrium or breast, a history of polyps in the colon, a history of inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease and a few hereditary conditions. The visiting surgeon advised "fecal occult blood test" or "fecal immunochemical test” every year plus flexible sigmoidoscopy every 5 years for people at average risk. |

Need to eredicate TB from Punjab: Health secy
Ludhiana, October 20 Addressing a state-level meeting of district TB control officers at Bachat Bhawan here, Sarangal sought cooperation of the supervisory officers to enforce TB control programme in an effective manner. He discussed in detail the ways and means for the implementation of the "Revised National TB Control Programme" and complete coverage of TB patients for the purpose of bringing them to DOT centres and continuation of the treatment. Director,health and family welfare, Punjab, Dr S.P.S. Sohal, state TB control officer, Dr Pawan Bansal and civil surgeon,Dr S.P. Sharma, also attended the meeting. Later, Sarangal held meetings with district leprosy officers and district immunisation officers from all over the state. |

Ludhiana, October 20 In the boy’s section, BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, and GHG Public School, Sidhwan Khurd, secured second and third position, respectively, while the second position in the girl’s section was bagged by GHG Public School, Sidhwan Khurd. Hosts, USPC Jain Public School, Chandigarh road, finished third in the girl’s section. Ram Kumar and M.P.Jain, vice-president and secretary, respectively of the management committee of the host school, were the chief guests at the prize distribution function. |

Green Grove skaters excel
Ludhiana, October 20 Aa many as 300 students from various schools from north India competed in this championship. A team of 42 students from Green Grove School took part in the meet and proved their mettle. Navneet, Paramvir, Gaganpreet Kaur, Simrandeep and Lovepreet Singh made their presence felt and fetched medals and brought fame to their school. Girl’s roler skating squad of Green Grove School too faired well at Mohali where they finished runners up to bag a silver medal. The school principal and management committee lauded the students’ performance and congratulated their coach, Tejpal Singh, on this achievement. |

Green Land school to host CBSE TT meet
Ludhiana, October 20 Baldeep Pandher, principal of Green Land School, informed that more than 400 students from about forty schools of Punjab would be vying for top honours in this tournament. Competition in u-14, u-17 and u-19 year age groups in the boys as well as girl’s sections will be conducted. Hira Singh Gabria, Punjab minister, will inaugurate the tournament on October 21 at 10.30 am. D R Yadav, joint secretary, regional office, CBSE, will be the chief-guest on the concluding day. |
