Minor reprieve for Dutt

Mumbai, October 20
Actor Sanjay Dutt will enjoy a couple of days more outside jail as the TADA court today did not hand him a copy of the judgement of his conviction in the arms possession case.

Dutt, who was instructed by the Supreme Court to surrender before the court on the same day he got the copy, is likely to be given one on October 22.

The actor was present in the court in response to the summons issued against him but did not receive his copy as it was not ready yet.

The court, meanwhile, handed over the copies of the judgement, which runs into 4,340 pages, to 13 convicts, including 10 who have been sentenced to death.

The Supreme Court had granted him bail on August 20 till the time he got a copy of the judgement.

Dutt, convicted for possessing arms that came as part of contraband smuggled in by the conspirators of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, was sentenced to six years of rigorous imprisonment on July 31. — PTI
