Kissinger urges Advani to support N-deal
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, October 29
Former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger today met Leader of the Opposition L.K. Advani during which issues related to the civil nuclear deal and other aspects of bilateral relations were discussed. During the meeting, Kissinger is believed to have impressed upon Advani the need for allowing the deal to go through.

The BJP, while favouring stronger ties with the US, has been opposing the deal saying it would affect the country's military nuclear programme and independent foreign policy.

However, lately it has said it was ready to allow the deal to go through if it was convinced that the military programme would not be affected. The 45-minute meeting came a day after Kissinger pressed for implementation of the nuclear deal, saying questions could be raised over India's trustworthiness if it fails to push it.
