Chandigarh, October 31 Digvijay Singh from Himachal Pradesh continued his winning run confidently as he today shocked sixth seed Sadwilkar Adwaitin in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in the boys’ under-14 quarter-final match. Laborious Mehta had yesterday stunned second seed Ronit Bisht in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.Today again the CLTA trainee displayed his brilliant form to oust Sadwilkar in two straight sets. In the girls’ under-14 singles quarterfinal match, Natasha Palha ended the winning streak of local player Harnoor Kaur Mann 6-2, 6-2. Vaidehi Bhagwat also moved into semi-final at the expense of Zainab Ali Sajjad 6-3, 6-0. |

Chandigarh, October 31 Giving details, the Indian Hockey Federation senior vice-president and president of the Chandigarh Hockey Association Chander Shekhar said, “A total of 24 top teams from all over the country would vie to establish their supremacy here. It is noticed that in hockey league matches the local hockey lovers turn up in large numbers during night matches under floodlights, so out of two, one match would be held under the lights daily”. The teams have been divided into four pools, each comprising six teams. “Defending champion, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), runners-up BPCL along with last year’s two semi-finalists, including Punjab and Sind Bank and Namdhari XI, have been seeded directly in the quarter finals”, said Chander Shekhar, who is also additional DGP, Punjab. The winners of the tournament will get a cash award of Rs 70,000 while runners-up will pocket Rs 45,000. Besides, cash award of Rs 4,000 each will be given to four outstanding players of the tournament and Late Dr B.L. Gupta trophy will be awarded to the most disciplined team, he added. The inaugural match will be held between the Chandigarh Hockey and Football Academy and the Punjab State Electricity Board at 3:45 pm. In the second match at 5:15 pm, Ropar Hawks and CISF teams would take on each other.

AG Punjab defeat AG Delhi
Chandigarh, October 31 AG Punjab gave a one-sided defeat to AG, Delhi, 25-11, 25-13 and 25-16. Dilip Singh, Balbir Singh
Bhattal, Anil Oberoi and Vijay Ahuja were instrumental in fashioning the win for AG Punjab side whereas Sudarshan was adjudged as good spiker from the loser’s side.

Gurkirat steers GGDSD to win
Chandigarh, October 31 Delivering clinical bowling spell, the bowlers of the GGDSD sent all the batsmen of Ludhiana team back to pavilion on a meagre 81 in just 28.5 overs. Karanveer, Gurkirat and Akashdeep claimed two wickets each. Karanveer conceded three runs while Gurkirat and Akashdeep gave eight and 18 runs, respectively. For the losers, Amandeep Singh and Vikesh contributed 16 runs each. In reply, SD College reached the target, 82 for no loss, in just 10.3 wickets.
