Mother, son get 2 years for usurping money
Ludhiana, October 31 The court also imposed fine of Rs 2,000 each on the accused. The judge held that the duo were guilty of committing criminal breach of trust by not returning the money of people collected by way of committees. The accused were booked at Haibowal police station, on May 18, 2003, following a complaint filed by Sukhwant Kaur of Hakikat Nagar, Haibowal Kalan, Ludhiana. In a written complaint, Sukhwant Kaur had submitted that the accused were running the business of committees and kitty for the last 12-13 years. The payments were collected by the duo. She alleged that the accused deceived her and committed criminal breach of trust for Rs 1.5 lakh. Apart from her, the accused also misappropriated two committees amounting to Rs 1,40,000 of Kanta of Patel Nagar. They had also embezzled approximately to the tune of Rs 35 lakh belonging to different persons, she added. Later, the accused claimed that there had been a dacoity in their house. Dacoits had taken away the money ranging between Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh from the almirah of their house. An FIR was also got registered by them. But after inquiry, the police found that the entire story was fabricated and it cancelled the FIR. However, the accused pleaded innocence and claimed false implication. But after perusing the evidence on record, the judge noted that the prosecution had proved that the FIR no. 77 dated March 22, 2002, got registered by the accused regarding a dacoity at their house, was cancelled, as it was found to be false. So, it was clear that the accused were telling a lie. Convinced with the testimonies of more than six persons, who had specifically deposed that their amount was also usurped by the accused, the court convicted the accused. |
