US moves, to review sale of F-16 jets to Pakistan
The Bush administration is reviewing the sale of F-16 fighter jets and P-3 aircraft to Pakistan in the wake of President Pervez Musharraf's decision to impose emergency rule. President George W. Bush also said he had asked secretary of state Condoleezza Rice to convey his message to Gen Musharraf "that we expect there to be elections as soon as possible and that the president should remove his military uniform".

Lawyers keep up protest

Pakistani police beat up and arrested lawyers protesting against the imposition of emergency rule today, while officials under US pressure said an election would be held in early 2008.

Mush calls House meet
President General Musharraf has summoned the National Assembly session to meet, ostensibly to approve a set of legislation to untie legal knots emerging from the supra-constitutional imposition of emergency last Saturday.

Afghan blast kills 60, including 5 MPs

A suicide attack on a parliamentary delegation killed at least 60 people in northern Afghanistan today, a provincial official said, in the worst such blast in the country’s history.

‘Battle’ for Nandigram leaves six dead

At least six persons were killed and 20 others injured today in what can be termed as a gun battle between Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee and CPI (M) supporters at Nandigram today. The injured included three policemen and a state armed battalion jawan.

ADA slab for Punjab staff

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today presented over 3.5 lakh employees of the state with a Diwali gift by directing the release of 6 per cent additional dearness allowance (ADA) instalment with effect from July 1, 2007 on the central pattern.

Pak minister denied visa
New Delhi, November 6
Controversial Pakistan Minister Sheikh Rashid, accused of harbouring Kashmiri militants more than a decade ago, has been denied visa to travel to India for the ongoing cricket series. Rashid, the Railways Minister, had requested for the visa, saying he had been invited as a guest by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Rizwanur’s widow Priyanka today wrote a personal letter to her mother-in-law Kiswar Jahan and his brother Rukhbanur. The letter gave a new twist to the ongoing CBI probe into the mysterious death of Rizwanur Rahman.
