Chandigarh, November 6
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today presented over 3.5 lakh employees of the state with a Diwali gift by directing the release of 6 per cent additional dearness allowance (ADA) instalment with effect from July 1, 2007 on the central pattern.
Disclosing this here today Harcharan Bains, media adviser to the Chief Minister, said the decision would also benefit pensioners who would be paid 6 per cent ADA in cash with effect from July 1, 2007. He said the amount of ADA to the employees from July 1 to September 30, 2007 would be credited to their GPF accounts.
For the period from October 1, 2007 to February 29, 2008, as much as 50 per cent of the accruing ADA would be paid in cash and 50 per cent credited to their GPF accounts. Badal’s decision implies a financial implication of Rs 271.91 crore from the state exchequer. The net outflow for the current financial year would be Rs 181.85 crore, said the media adviser.
