Ludhiana district girls under-XI team who participated for the first time in the state championship Kabaddi bagged gold defeating their rival district Mansa under-XI in the final held at Mohali.

Harman Rani of Khanzarwal was the captain of the team. The players were selected from government primary schools of Sidhwan Kalan, Bhundri, Hans Kalan, Cheema and Khanzarwal. Brinderpal Singh was the coach and Jeewan Singh team incharge.

The team played four matches. First with Kapurthala district, second Muktsar, third Ferozepur and final with Mansa. The medals were awarded by Captain Kanwaljit Singh, minister of co-operation, defence, services welfare, removal of grievances, pension and welfare of pensioners. 

BCM eves, Spring Dale lads emerge champs

BCM Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh road, in the girl’s section and Spring Dale Senior Secondary School, Amritsar, in the boy’s section came out winners to bag titles in the CBSE Cluster XVI Basketball Tournament (u-19) being played at BCM Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh road branch, here today.

In the girl’s final, host BCM Senior Secondary School proved their mettle scripting an easy win by 37-23 over Apeejay Public School, Jalandhar.

Jaspreet and Deepali netted 20 and 13 points, respectively, for the winners while Jupneet made 14 points for Apeejay School.

The final in the boy’s section played between Spring Dale Senior Secondary School, Amritsar, and Police DAV Public School, Amritsar, turned out to be a one-sided afair with the former romping home victorious 65-35.

Gurwinder Singh chipped in 22 points for Spring Dale School while Amanpreet Singh contributed 17 points.

For Police DAV Public School, Paramjeet fought the losing battle with 13 points.

In a match for the Hardline Cup, host BCM Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh road branch, quelled a strong challenge from Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Amritsar, before winning the verdict 57-47.

For BCM Senior Secondary School, Inderjeet and Pratyush contributed 18 and 16 points while Ranjot Singh accounted for 13 points for the losers.

Sixteen top hockey outfits of the country besides a team from Bangladesh will battle it out in the 5th All-India Junior Doraha Gold Cup Hockey Tournament to be oragnised by the Hawks Club, Doraha, at Guru Nanak School, Doraha, near here from November 14 to 18.

Anil Prabhat, former national hockey player and president of the tournament committee, said teams include IHF India Junior, Orissa SAI centre, SAI Bhopal, SAI Lucknow, Punjab and Sind Bank Academy, Punjab National Bank Academy, Chandigarh, Mata Sahib Kaur Academy of Jarkhar, Mehta Gurukul Academy of Doraha, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Academy of Amritsar, SAI Centre Kurukshtera, SAI Gurgaon, Surjit Academy of Jalandhar.
