Doctors offer prayers to Lord Dhanwantri

Ludhiana, November 8
The local branch of the National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA) organised a function at Dr Parveen Bhalla Clinic here last evening to mark Dhanwantri Jayanti.

Members of the association, along with medical professionals, offered prayers to the creator of ayurveda.

According to NIMA secretary Dr Surendra Gupta, doctors paid tributes to Lord Dhanwantri and prayed for good health to all human beings.

They also pledged to shun greed while treating a patient.

The doctors also vowed to protect the dignity of women and launch a concerted drive against the menace of female feticide.

They urged people not to fall in the trap of quacks and avoid the habit of self-medication as both were a roadblock in achieving their goal of “health for all”.

The doctors were later briefed about the programmes for the World Diabetes Day and the World COPD Day, which would be observed on November 14.

A diabetes awareness lecture will be organised at SDP College for Women on November 13. It will be presided over by civil surgeon Dr Sat Pal Sharma.

On November 14, a free spirometry camp will be held at Dr Kharbanda Clinic in Wal Singh Nagar and later in the day an interactive session will be organised for doctors.

Among others, Dr Parveen Bhalla, Dr Rajesh Thaper, Dr K.K. Kharbanda, Dr Inder Sharma and Dr Harish Kumar were also present at the function and offered prayers.

Basketball league third leg from Nov 10

Ludhiana, November 8
The third leg of the Punjab Annual Basketball League for men and women will be organised at Sujapur village, near here, from November 10 to 13.

According to Punjab Basketball Association secretary Teja Singh Dhaliwal, the league is being organised by NRI Jagtar Singh in the memory of his brother Kuldeep Singh who was killed in the 1965 Indo-Pak war.

Teams from Punjab Police, BSF, PSEB, Rest of Punjab and Punjab Schools u-19 in the men’s section, and district teams from Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur in the women’s section will vie for top honours.

Matches will be played on round robin league basis.

Performance during the league will be taken into consideration while selecting the state teams for the forthcoming national championship.

Jarkhar Academy in super league

Ludhiana, November 8
Jarkhar Academy boys advanced into the super league phase in the u-17 years section of the 43rd All India Nehru Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at Shivaji Stadium, Delhi.

In the first league match played yesterday, Jarkhar Academy, after trailing by two goals till the 67th minute of the match against last year’s semifinalists Manipur, bounced back to wrap it up 3-2.

Mukesh Kumar (67th minute), Ramandeep (68th minute) and Bhupinder Pal Singh (70th minute) helped Jarkhar Academy to romp home victorious.

In the second league encounter today, Jarkhar stamped their superiority over Assam whom they defeated 4-1. Deepak scored a brace, while Bhupinder Pal Singha and Gagandeep found the target once to fetch the match.

DAV spikers stamp authority

Students of DAV Public School, Ludhiana, gave a sterling performance to win four out of five titles in the Ludhiana Sahodaya Schools Volleyball Tournament at Spring Dale Senior Secondary, Sherpur, here yesterday.

They came out winners in the boys’ u-19, u-17, u-14 years and girls’ u-19 years sections. Rara Sahib bagged the title in the girls’ u-14 years section. Hosts Spring Dale School finished runners-up in the boys’ u-19, u-17 and u-14 years category.
