Sandeep silences his critics
Chandigarh, November 12 With good showing in the Germany League, India’s number one penalty specialist has proved his fitness for the national squad. He has caught the attention of hockey aficionados with his sterling performance. By clinching the best award in the 37th S.N. Vohra All-India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament, Sandeep has silenced his critics. In the tournament, he scored seven goals in four matches, including a hat-trick, which was instrumental in clinching the semifinal match against Indian Oil Corporation. In the Surjit hockey tournament, Sandeep remained top scorer by netting six goals in four matches. Sandeep was selected as standby for Asia Cup but could not participate due to injury. However, he later participated in the ‘A’ grade Germany League, held last month, where he put up a great show with his stick. “I am working hard to draw the attention of Indian selectors. Now my aim is to give more than 100 per cent in the forthcoming Premier Hockey League and secure my place in the national squad,” said Sandeep. |
