CCTA aims it big
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, November 13
The city is emerging as a vibrant nursery for tennis and the latest in its kitty is the Chandigarh Club Tennis Academy (CCTA) on Chandigarh Club premises, here.

Aiming to produce players of national or international level, this academy will cater to tennis lovers of all age groups from four to 18 years.

With four clay courts, two synthetic courts and two mini-courts (to be introduced soon) already there, the facilities are being continuously upgraded here.

India’s No.15 in 1996 and ITF White Badge umpire Birbal Wadhera along with former Asian Junior Champion-1994 Robin Kumar will impart trainng to young enthusiasts.

Wadhera says it all started with the aim to grooming talented young boys and girls at the centre from beginners to advanced levels.

The trainees will be put through rigorous training schedule, including systematic physical exercise.

Wadhera says: “The reason for not finding champion material in our country is that there is lack of patience in both players as well as their parents. They want to achieve results overnight. Also, there are hardly any prize money tournaments organised in our country. So, there is ‘lack of desire’ to play. The young players find bleak future to take tennis on professional level.”
