New Delhi, November 15
In view of the appreciating value of the Rupee vis-a-vis the US Dollar, the government today decided that foreigners visiting the ticketed monuments of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) would now pay only in Indian currency.

At present, the entry fee for foreigners for the ticketed monuments of the ASI is $5 per person for world heritage sites and $2 per person for other monuments.

These rates were fixed when the exchange rate of the US Dollar was about Rs 50.

“However, keeping in view the international practices and also to avoid any anomaly on account of falling exchange rates of the US Dollar vis-à-vis Rupee and consequent fall in revenues, the government has decided to denominate the entry fee for foreigners for all monuments in the Indian Rupee only,” a ministry official said.

Under the new system, the entry fee for a foreigner to a world heritage site monument will now be Rs 250 and Rs 100 for other monuments. — UNI
