Dutt’s bail plea to be heard on Nov 27

The Supreme Court today decided to hear the bail petition of actor Sanjay Dutt along with the plea of the other convicts in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case on November 27.

Taking into consideration that besides Dutt nine other convicts had filed an appeal, the apex court said it will hear all of them on Tuesday and apply the same parameter for deciding them.

“We will pass a general order and anyone coming within that parameter will get relief/bail,” a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan said.

It, however, said the most important criteria while deciding the bail plea would be the length of sentence imposed on the convicts. The Bench said they would give a general direction and not touch upon the merits of the case as it was not possible to decide the appeals before five to six months. — PTI
